When it comes to renowned actresses, we often focus on their dazzling career milestones and show-stopping red-carpet appearances. Yet, we rarely venture into their personal lives and remain oblivious to the extraordinary efforts that go unnoticed. It’s true, the glitz and glamour of the silver screen can obscure these luminaries’ significant contributions and deeds. So let’s talk about the merits of 11 stars.

1. Selena Gomez

During the 80th Golden Globes ceremony, Selena Gomez looked stunning on the red carpet. However, despite her confidence and beauty, some people commented on her appearance. Instead of letting the criticism bring her down, Gomez responded with a positive attitude and witty remark, saying that she had enjoyed herself during the holidays and didn’t care about her size. This showed that she is a good role model for her sister and women around the world, promoting self-love and acceptance no matter what size they are. Ultimately, self-love is what makes you shine from the inside out.

“I tend to hold a lot of water weight and that happens very normally, and then when I’m off it I tend to kind of lose weight,” she told the camera. “I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what [you’re] going through, [when] nobody knows the real story... you’re beautiful and you’re wonderful.” She said on one of her TikTok lives.

“Not a model, never will be,” she added. “Thanks for supporting me and understanding and, if not... go away. Because honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for [their] body or anything.”

2. Jennifer Aniston

Looking at the successful Jennifer Aniston, it’s hard to believe that she had some difficulties in her work. However, in 2015, the actress confessed that she has been struggling with dyslexia (the impaired ability to quickly and correctly recognize written language) since childhood. But the actress is not looking for easy ways out.

In addition to the fact that Aniston learned to live with this disorder, she has also chosen a profession that implies reading a lot of literature and learning big parts of different texts.

3. Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron was born and raised in South Africa. Her native language is Afrikaans. That’s why before she moved to the US, her English was very poor. Theron had to literally learn the language from scratch.

At the beginning of her career, she faced many refusals due to her strong African accent. But Theron has mastered her American pronunciation so well, people who don’t know her background would never be able to guess her exotic origins.

4. Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet has made a commitment to no longer allow her photographs to be retouched in advertising campaigns. She believes that such alterations are misleading to young women who may try to emulate the unrealistic standards set by the images. She also thinks it’s important for women to feel confident in their natural appearance.

“The retouching is excessive,” she explained. “I do not look like that and more importantly, I don’t desire to look like that.”

5. Frances McDormand

One of the most extraordinary modern celebrities and the muse of the Coen brothers, Frances McDormand, prefers natural beauty. The actress doesn’t hide her gray hair and she doesn’t apply makeup at all, even for the Oscars. That’s the bravery many fans love her for.

6. Renée Zellweger

Renée Zellweger is a very talented actress, indeed. She has Oscars and many nominations for this award. All thanks to the fact that Zellweger is scrupulous in each of her roles. Like, for example, when she mastered a British accent for Bridget Jones’s Diary.

It was so flawless that not only viewers but also her English colleagues were giving her standing ovations. She managed to reach the goal despite the fact that she was born and raised in Texas, the state famous for its unique manner of speaking.

7. Zendaya

Zendaya is one of the most promising actresses in Hollywood. Each year, we see her star in more great projects. Apart from movie roles, she is also famous for her active social position. Zendaya stands for natural beauty and doesn’t feel shy about posting makeup-free photos. Once, she showed a non-Photoshopped version of a photo of her taken for a magazine.

8. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is willing to do anything for her profession. In most cases, the actress refuses the services of stunts, preferring to do many tricks, including difficult ones, herself. In the Salt action movie, Jolie was making dangerous jumps from a bridge onto a moving truck herself. In order to be able to stand the hard physical pressure, Angelina was undergoing extensive training several times a week.

9. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s filmography doesn’t have that many roles yet, but one she’s had so far has been bright and expressive. And it’s all thanks to the hard work she does. When she was getting ready to shoot House of Gucci, Lady Gaga studied the biography of her character, Patrizia Reggiani, down to the tiniest details. In order to portray a full and convincing character, she mastered her Italian accent and stayed fully in character for 9 months, even when cameras were off.

10. Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley has been called one of the most beautiful women in the world many times. But at the same time, people are bothered by her body shape — some call her sickly slim, while others call her body “boyish.” As for Knightley herself, she is so satisfied with her body that she forbids the retouching of her photos for magazines.

11. Andie MacDowell

Andie MacDowell has embraced her natural gray hair and is proud to showcase it. MacDowell shares that she had previously been coloring her hair for years, but during the pandemic, she decided to let it go gray. She explains, “I’m 64, and this is the time of my life. Eventually, I’m going to be silver. And I wanted to have this experience of feeling what it is.”
