There is no textbook about raising children that can be effectively apply to each and every child on this planet. Parents have their own opinions and ideas about taking care of their young ones based on their unique needs. And it’s their right to set rules that aim to help their kids grow up in a heathy and respectful way.

1. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore, the actress/producer/businesswoman, rose to fame at the young age of 6. Mother of 2 daughters, 9 and 7 years old, Drew is very vocal about not allowing her kids to become actors, at least while they’re minors. She’d rather let them enjoy childhood and not be in the spotlight.

2. Gisele Bündchen

Gisele Bündchen has 2 children with Tom Brady and the couple has a “no diaper rule” where, instead of using traditional diapers, whether cloth or disposable ones, they choose something called “natural infant hygiene” or “elimination communication.” In short, the actress carried her baby through the house and kept a close eye on their body signals — when it was time to go potty, she’d hold them over the toilet. One of the benefits of this rule is that Benjamin, one of their kids, was potty trained at 6-months old.

3. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson, a mother of 3, mentioned that raising girls is totally different than raising boys. For her youngest daughter, she’s trying something she called a “genderless approach.” The actress added that “Not all girls want to be a princess, some want to be king. And that’s fine by me!”

The star couple, who are parents to a 7-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, confessed that they don’t like to spoil them with gifts. The actress opened up, saying, “So far, our tradition is no presents for the kids... Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was 2...and we didn’t give her anything — it was the grandparents.’’ She explained, ’’The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don’t even know what they’re expecting; they’re just expecting stuff.”

Kate Winslet, a mother of 3, has banned all forms of social media in her house. “It has a huge impact on young women’s self-esteem because all they ever do is design themselves for people to like them.” Moreover, the actress also believes divorce can be good for children because it teaches them how to struggle.

Has your mother ever punished you by sending you to sit in the corner for bad behavior? Well, Jessica Alba uses that method with her children when they misbehave or don’t obey her orders, besides being very strict with the children’s sleeping and eating schedules.

7. Will and Jada Smith

The Smiths had one rule in their household and that is there are “No Rules.” Jada and Will Smith gave their children “as much control over their lives as possible.” When they were really young they practiced, “The circle of safety,” where the kids could come clean and share anything they did, no matter how bad it might be considered, without receiving any negative consequences.

The English actress revealed that some Disney films are a big no-no for her daughter to watch because she doesn’t agree with the message they give to young girls. She explained that Cinderella ’’is about waiting around for a rich guy to rescue her — no, rescue yourself!" The Little Mermaid is another movie she doesn’t fully agree with, saying, ’’The songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello?!"

Kristen Bell locked her daughter who would refuse to go to sleep in her room at night. “We lock it when she gets in there, and we stand outside and say, ’We love you, we will talk to you in the morning, but now, it’s time for sleep.’ And after about 10 minutes, she’ll wind herself down. And then, before we go to bed, obviously, we unlock it.”

The actress who is popular for her comedic roles in Blossom and The Big Bang Theory not only stands out for her television roles but also has a PhD in neuroscience, applying much of her theory to parenting. Among her many methods is to not force her children to be kind or grateful, but letting them incorporate those habits themselves by observing their parents. According to Mayim, this serves to “teach them how a society works without us having to force it on them.”

Angelina Jolie shared that one of the things she doesn’t ever do is cry in front of her kids. “I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.”

12. Madonna

The legendary pop singer has had the good fortune to raise numerous children throughout her life, and the upbringing of all of them had one very particular thing in common: no television in the house. According to Madonna, this is because she wanted to prevent her children from growing up with that noise around them to allow them to express themselves in other things.
