Our home is our temple: it represents that place of rest and peace, where we surround ourselves with our favorite things and which we design to our liking. That’s why we are always on the lookout for simple tips and tricks that will elevate our home to another level without requiring special cleaning services or an interior designer.

At Now I’ve Seen Everything we compiled the most practical and pocket-friendly tips to keep our humble abodes sparkling at all times.

1. Elegant toilet paper

Certainly, one of the small details that can make a difference in our bathroom is the way we present the objects. This simple hack consists of making a fold at the end of the toilet paper so that it is pointed, and then pressing it against the faucet to make it look like it’s sealed once it dries.

2. Cleaning window frames and balconies

To reach those tiny chinks between which the window frames and balconies slide, we can use a knife wrapped in a cloth to get rid of the dirt accumulated there.

3. Fixing the buttons on shirts

It often happens that shirt buttons, or even pants’, fly off when you need them the most. A good way to prevent this from happening is to apply clear nail polish on the threads that hold the button to make sure they stay firm and in place.

4. Use vinegar instead of softener

Although people think that only the supermarket product can make their clothes soft, it turns out that vinegar can do exactly the same. If you’re worried about the smell, remember that water dilutes it. But you can also add a few drops of your favorite scent to give that extra touch to your clothes and enjoy both the softness and the aroma.

5. Making the faucet shine

The trick to make a faucet (or dishwashers, sinks, etc.) shiny and beautiful is simple, as well as affordable for everyone: use a lemon or a lime to rub silver surfaces. This will make them look sparkling clean, as it removes all the grease and dirt accumulated.

6. Microwave cleaning with zero effort

With the help of this star product, vinegar and liquid dish soap, you can get rid of the dirt accumulated in the microwave. Just mix both ingredients in a microwave-safe container. Heat them on high power until it starts to bubble (it should release vapors, so between 3 and 5 minutes) and carefully open the door. All the dirt will come off easily!

7. Cleaning the bathroom mirror

When we use the mirror, it is normal to want it to be clean so that we can see our reflection as clearly as possible. You can use shaving cream for a shiny finish without annoying finger marks. Clean it using a sponge and some water.

8. Decrease dusting

Place newspaper on tall furnite to cover the upper parts. That way, dust accumulates there instead of on the furniture. When it’s time to clean, you’ll only have to remove the newpaper and give a quick wipe to get rid of any residue. Goodbye, sneezing!

9. Homemade freshner

For your home to be perfect, it not only has to look clean, but it also needs to smell great. To do that you only need 3 super simple ingredients: water, lime or lemon, and vanilla. If you use a medium-sized pot, fill it 2/3. Cut enough lemons to fill it (between 2 and 3) and add a teaspoon of vanilla essence. Let it boil until the water evaporates, and by that point you will have a sweet smell wafting through the house. If you want a stronger scent, you can add a sprig of rosemary.
