11 Stars Who Don’t Give Autographs or Take Selfies with Fans
Celebrity gossip is a rather innocent thing in most cases, however, it can sometimes take an ugly form. For example, because we are living in the age of social media, some stalking accounts on Instagram are becoming increasingly popular. Stars are getting fed up with it, and want more privacy. That’s why some of them refuse to take selfies with fans or even sign autographs. We made a list here to know who not to approach if we see them out and about.
1. Justin Bieber
“If you happen to see me out somewhere, know that I’m not gonna take a picture. I’m done taking pictures.” This is what the world-famous singer explained in an Instagram post.
He also added, “It has gotten to the point that people won’t even say hi to me or recognize me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity. I realize people will be disappointed but I don’t owe anybody a picture.”
2. Paul McCartney
A former Beatles member revealed in an interview that he doesn’t enjoy taking selfies and signing autographs for fans anymore. The musician also noted that he finds it strange. Instead, Paul McCartney suggests talking: “Let’s chat, let’s exchange stories.”
3. Chris Pratt
The actor explained that he dislikes taking pictures with fans because all they want to do is brag to their friends about it. That’s why he will instead offer a handshake, but on many occasions, people will quickly snap a picture even if he has already declined. As he says, he has come to the conclusion that it’s okay to disappoint people and not always offer them what they want.
4. Bryan Cranston
The actor announced officially in 2018 that he would be retiring from signing autographs after 18 years of doing it. He said, “I’m overwhelmed by requests and I just can’t do it anymore. I love meeting fans and will personalize pics in person, but that’s all.” Luckily, for those who want a memento of him, he will gladly pose for a picture with you.
5. Cameron Diaz
The beloved actress also doesn’t sign autographs or pose for pictures anymore. The reason for this is that if she does it for one fan, dozens of people start queueing up. She has been criticized for that but at the end of the day, it should be up to every person to decide what to do with their time.
6. Emma Watson
The Harry Potter star has decided that she will no longer take photos with fans due to concerns for her personal safety. As she says, “If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within 2 seconds they’ve created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 meters.” What she will do instead is interact with her fans for as long as they want and answer all their questions about Harry Potter.
7. Amy Schumer
The comedian had a very unpleasant experience back in the day with a fan who chased her down the street and demanded to take a picture with her. When she refused to do so, the man replied, “We paid for you.” At first, she said that she would stop taking pictures altogether, but in more recent years, she has decided to only take pictures with nice people.
8. Tobey Maguire
The actor who played Spiderman even got first place in a rating of the least approachable celebrities once because he was routinely turning down fans who wanted a photo together or an autograph. Tobey Maguire didn’t comment on this, but some people jokingly theorized that he simply was restricted by his costume.
9. Jennifer Lawrence
Just walking down the street, the actress might have at least 1 person that asks for a selfie and her answer nowadays will be “no.” It’s not because she wants to be rude to anyone, it’s just that this is her way of keeping sheltered. Her job puts her under the spotlight and she feels that she needs to keep a level of privacy as much as she can.
10. Maisie Williams
“I still don’t feel like I owe anyone anything. If I don’t want a picture one day, I don’t have a problem saying no.” This is how the young actress feels, and she doesn’t really care if people think she is mean for reacting like that to selfies.
People think they know her and have certain expectations of her, but she is not there to meet those expectations. In her mind, she feels like this: “If I was really in love with someone, I wouldn’t just want a picture. I would want to hang out with them.”
1. Joaquin Phoenix
The celebrated actor is okay with signing people’s autographs, but he draws the line when it comes to selfies.
Once, when a woman asked him for a photo, as he explained, “I said, ‘You know what? I don’t do that, but thanks so much for coming up.’ We chatted a bit. It was fun.” It seems that he values a real conversation with fans more than superficial encounters.
Have you ever approached a famous person to ask for a photo or an autograph or to simply chat with them? How did they react?
