14 People Reveal Stories of Cheaters Who Expected to Escape Consequences

Love stories rarely unfold without obstacles. Even the most passionate beginnings don’t always lead to happy endings — especially when infidelity enters the picture. Here, we’ve gathered real-life stories of cheating partners caught off guard, moments that ultimately changed the direction of their relationships.

  • I came home from working a double shift and found the toilet seat up. Either my wife didn’t take a piss for 20 hours straight, or there had been another man in my house. I suspected it was her “gay” friend from work.
I also knew that said friend was trying to sell his house, so I called a real estate agent and asked to see his place. Right inside the front door, I recognized one of her jackets hanging in the mudroom. I proceeded to the living room, and bam — right on the mantel was a picture of my wife and this guy.
We divorced shortly after. She ended up marrying this guy, then cheated on him, and now they’re divorced. I didn’t feel bad for him at all. © signalthree / Reddit
  • Went to IKEA shortly after my first wedding to buy a dining room table. It was me, my then-husband, and a close friend, who, unbeknownst to naïve-young-me, was my then-husband’s mistress. I watched them walk around like a couple discussing the options before finally settling on a glass-topped table that I mentioned many times was impractical. (One pan-slip away from shattering!)
While I had my blinders on to all the other signs that they were cheating on me, it was this moment which made me realize what was going on. I busted him a few days later. (And should have also busted that stupid table.) © CommonFrequency / Reddit
  • I was dating a guy. Every day, I walked home from work with the happy anticipation of being with the man I loved. If he came in early, he would cook what I liked for dinner. If I came early, we ate what he liked for dinner.
One day, I felt really bad at work, so they let me go home early. I thought my significant other was asleep, but he was with another woman. And all my love for this man popped up like a soap bubble. I went into the room, switched on the light. There was screaming and shouting.
And I calmly said, “Get lost, I want to sleep.” I said that and went to bed. 10 minutes later, the guy walked his girlfriend out and came back to wake me up. He said he wanted to apologize, but I didn’t even want to listen to him.
In the morning, I packed my stuff, and my ex was following me around. He tried to hug me, he tried to kiss me. I was disgusted by his touch. I went to a friend and removed him from everywhere, erased all the photos and messages.
  • My grandmother was a nurse. Once, she was assisting with delivering a baby, and the ostensible father commented that the child looked good for a premature baby. Without thinking, my grandmother told the truth, “That baby is not premature.” So I guess I know where I get my social obliviousness from. © tornado28 / Reddit
  • My husband opened up and said that he had fallen in love with someone else, but he didn’t want to leave me with the child. “I love you both!” he says. So he called that woman to have a conversation together.
And I said, “What are you waiting for, huh? I loved you and put up with your cheating for 8 years. And now you do it again? People don’t change. Stay out of my life!”
  • I met a guy, and just a few days later we decided to move in together. A month later, I got a call from a woman who yelled, “I’m his wife! Who are you?!” I had no idea he was married. Confused, I replied, “What wife? We’ve been living together for a month!” She was just as stunned as I was.
It turned out they had recently had a big argument, and she’d kicked him out to stay with his mother. Almost immediately, he started a new relationship — with me. In the end, they divorced, and he and I eventually got married.
  • I broke my parents up. I asked my Mum if I could have dinner at my "Aunt Christie"’s house again because she cooked my favorite pasta. Turns out Mum didn’t know who “Aunt Christie” was  which is because she wasn’t really my aunt, she was the coworker my Dad was sleeping with. © AussieCanuck94 / Reddit
  • We had a family get-together, and my uncle and his wife paid us a visit. We were drinking tea and watching TV, and suddenly a close-up appeared on the entire screen  my uncle hugging a strange woman who’s holding a bouquet of flowers. And then my aunt snapped...
How much crockery she broke, we couldn’t even count! However, they didn’t divorce.
  • I ratted out my dad when I was a kid. They would send him with me to a snow slide, and he would get cold and bored, quickly meet some woman with a child, and take them all to a cafe. I was very happy with this arrangement and always waited for my dad to go out with me.
I don’t know whether those acquaintances continued  he rarely went out with me, and these were different women. But I really liked one of them. She had a daughter about my age, we played well together, and she invited me to visit her.
When we were going to the slide with my dad again, I asked everyone if miss Galina and her daughter Olivia would be there today and if we would go to visit them after the restaurant. A scandal broke out, I didn’t go anywhere that day, and my dad was suspended from going out with me.
  • A flirty text from a guy popped up on while we were looking at her phone for a place to eat. He complimented a picture I had just taken of her...she sent it to him while around me. Bold. Also, this happened in the Eiffel Tower, only a couple of hours into what was supposed to be a 2-week vacation. © Meh_Ill_Do_It_Later / Reddit
  • I dumped a girl after she cheated on me. I found out she was kissing with another man. The ex was devastated, said she couldn’t live without me, pestered me with calls. She even came to my parents crying.
And then she told me she was pregnant with my baby. She sent me a photo of a 2-stripe test. I was shocked, but I knew I’d never send her for an abortion. I got over myself, said I’d forgive everything, and we’d raise the child together.
It’s a good thing my friend was smarter than me. He called me and said, “Dan, you’re a fool. I found the exact same picture of the test online.” I wonder what she would have made up next. Would she play up the tragedy of losing the baby?
  • He told me he is at church. Then I heard a voice asking in the background, “Babe, why are you hiding in the bathroom?” He still had the guts to deny it. © CalligrapherOk6633 / Reddit
  • I smelled something wrong and checked my husband’s phone for the first time in 18 years, and there was just shame. There’s no fool like an old fool. Lots of text messages with girls in their twenties. They were all from the fitness club we go to.
He found their numbers on reception somehow. He texted then, and they just told him to get lost. In this whole story, it’s not even the possible cheating that makes me angry, it’s the fact that the whole fitness club is laughing at him, and therefore at me.
  • My colleague’s friend thought he was cheating on his wife very cleverly — meeting his mistress only during work hours and always on neutral ground. For a long time, she tried to persuade him to take a trip to a resort, promising they wouldn’t have to hide and could finally relax.
Eventually, she convinced him. He set off on a so-called “business trip” to an all-inclusive hotel. The couple enjoyed a lovely night in a double room, but the next morning brought an unpleasant surprise. They ran into a cheerful couple — his neighbor, who was also his wife’s best friend, and her husband.
Soon after, his wife received a phone call. The affair was exposed, and the marriage ended in divorce.
