9 Times Characters Who Bonded Onscreen Ended Up as More Than Friends in Real Life
No one spoils Cupid’s plans. Not even actors and actresses who work hours together and swear they don’t feel anything for each other. Or who explain that those flirtatious glances they give each other are just part of the plot, and they don’t really feel them at all (of course not...). Several pairs of actors have taken their fictional bond to reality. Some have even been pretend siblings and something more off set.
At Now I’ve Seen Everything, we’ve found several cases where the affection of the characters went beyond the screen. Let’s check out the evidence!
1. Blake Lively and Penn Badgley
In 2007, we saw Blake Lively and Penn Badgley play Serena and Dan, who were part of the group of friends in Gossip Girl. In the series, they were not only a couple, but also step-siblings, since her mom and his dad were married and had a love story even before their children were born.
But that was not an impediment for the characters to continue their relationship until they got married, and working together was not a problem for the actors either, as they dated from 2007 to 2010. Although their romance began and ended during the filming years, this did not affect the series, as they continued to be good co-stars.
2. Emily VanCamp and Chris Pratt
Emily and Chris played siblings Bright and Amy Abbott, 2 locals from the town of Everwood, in the series with the same name. Despite that, they had been in a relationship since 2004, and although some viewers found it strange to know that the fictional siblings were a couple in real life, they were happy together for 3 years.
3. Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz
The Twilight saga is not only full of action and emotion, but it’s also full of actors who ended up having solid bonds. That’s the case with its stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who dated for several years, and also Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz, who played siblings, Alice and Emmett Cullen.
While the former vampires were not a couple, they were best friends. In fact, he proposed moving to New York together.
4. Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley
The hit 1990s series Beverly Hills, 90210, which chronicled the lives of a group of teenagers in California, starred Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley. The actors played Brenda and Brandon Walsh, a pair of twins who had a brief romantic relationship off-camera.
But things ended badly when she was removed from the series due to her behavior and problems with the rest of the team, and he did not hesitate to define her as “a diva, a spoiled brat” in his autobiography Jason Priestley: A Memoir.
5. Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins
In The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Clary (Lily Collins) enters the strange world of shadows when she meets Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), a shadowhunter who she ends up in a romance with and she will also discover that he is her brother (although adopted). Love went beyond the screen and, in 2013, they started dating. Then they broke up, but in 2015 they got back together only to break up again in 2018.
6. Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill
Even if you haven’t seen the Star Wars movies, you probably know who Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) are, the twin siblings who grew up in different places and joined forces to end the rule of the Galactic Empire in the famous saga. But beyond the sibling bond, the actor confessed that, during the filming of the first movie, both were attracted to each other and even had an affair.
7. Michael Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
In the series Dexter, we met the Morgan half-siblings: 2 officers of the Miami Police Department. But far from being united by the same father, the protagonists Michael Hall and Jennifer Carpenter were not only real-life sweethearts, but also married in December 2008. Sadly they separated 2 years later.
8. Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace
In Lost, the survivors of an air disaster are stranded on a deserted island in the South Pacific, and among them were step-siblings Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder) and Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace). But sparks on the film set started between this pair, as they began a relationship in 2006. Although they broke up the following year, the actress stated that they continue to be very good friends.
9. Selena Gomez and David Henrie
Wizards of Waverly Place follows the adventures of the Russo family, who own a New York restaurant and have a gift for magic. The father of siblings Alex (Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie) and Max (Jake T. Austin) is the one who teaches them to master their powers as they compete against each other to become the sole wizard heir of the family.
The tension between Alex and Justin is constant in the series, but in real life, the actors have an excellent friendship and have even been romantically involved, although they have never confirmed it.
