Mean People Asked Her to Stop Posting Photos Because of Her Appearance, but She Continued and Became a Model

Michelle Trachtenberg, the beloved actress famed for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, tragically passed away at the age of 39 in her New York City apartment last Wednesday. In the weeks leading up to her death, Trachtenberg shared a series of troubling images on Instagram, where she appeared increasingly thin and frail. Fans were quick to express their concern over her noticeable weight loss, and these posts added to the heartbreak surrounding her untimely passing.
Michelle Trachtenberg was born on October 11, 1985, in New York City. She began her acting career at just nine years old, landing her first credited role on the popular 1990s Nickelodeon series The Adventures of Pete & Pete, where she portrayed the quirky Nona F. Mecklenberg.
Trachtenberg went on to star in several family-friendly films and TV shows, with her big-screen debut in the lead role of Harriet the Spy (1996). As she matured, she transitioned to more complex roles, most notably portraying Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Buffy, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer for three seasons. She also gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of the cunning and manipulative Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, which ran for six seasons.
Sources reported that Trachtenberg was found around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, at One Columbus Place, a 51-story luxury apartment building in Manhattan’s Central Park South area.
It was also revealed that the actress had recently undergone a liver transplant and may have been dealing with complications. In the past few months, the former Harriet the Spy star received negative comments on Instagram from followers concerned about her appearance.
In January 2024, the actress responded to criticism with a strong message on Instagram. "Fun fact. This is my face. Not malnutrition, no problems. Why do you have you hate? Get a calendar," she wrote.
The negative comments started earlier that week after she shared a selfie. In the caption of that post, she wrote, "Snake it to make it."
Many of Michelle Trachtenberg’s former co-stars shared heartfelt tributes on social media, remembering her talent and the friendship they shared. Several castmates posted memories of her and expressed condolences to her family and friends.
Kim Cattrall, who worked with Trachtenberg in Ice Princess, shared a tribute on Instagram, writing, “Rest in peace sweet Michelle.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar also paid tribute to her Buffy sister, saying, “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.”
Blake Lively, who portrayed Serena alongside Trachtenberg’s Georgina on Gossip Girl, posted a moving remembrance on Instagram stories Wednesday evening. “This is the first day I met Michelle. She was electricity. You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%. She laughed the fullest at someone’s joke, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.”
Michelle Trachtenberg once revealed that Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn’t her only chance to be in a vampire-related role. She shared that she was considered for the role of Bella in Twilight, competing with Kristen Stewart. However, due to scheduling conflicts with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she was unable to take on the part.
Despite this, Michelle never regretted missing out on Twilight, as she had already played a key role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Buffy’s younger sister.
Meanwhile, 87-year-old Jack Nicholson made his first public appearance in years, but one detail has sparked heated controversy.
