Christina Applegate Has Revealed How Her Insidious Disease Caused Her to Gain 40 lbs and Change Beyond Recognition
Being a celebrity means living in the public eye at all times. It doesn’t matter if you’re at the height of your popularity or battling an illness. None of this can be hidden from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. As Christina Applegate bravely fights her disease, viewers watch with bated breath. And the actress recently shared what she has been feeling through it all.
Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis back in 2021 as she was filming the final season of her show. She explained that had she waited for months to watch herself after the show was released because she didn’t feel like herself. The star noted, ’’I don’t like seeing myself struggling.’’
Applegate was also honest about the physical transformation she’s experienced as a result of MS, sharing, ’’I gained 40 lbs because of inactivity and medications.’’
“It’s exhausting,” she said of her symptoms. “Imagine just being in a crowd of people and how loud that is. It’s like 5,000 times louder for anyone who has lesions on their brains.”
After she was diagnosed, the series Dead to Me halted production so Applegate could begin treatment. After filming ended, the actress revealed that working through her symptoms was “as hard as you would possibly think it would be.”
The Dead to Me actress recently revealed that the SAG Awards would most likely be her last because she is still continuing to cope with the effects of her illness. “It’s my last award show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal,” Applegate explained. “Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set. I don’t have that in me at this moment.”
“I’m also in mourning for the person who I was,” the actress said. Currently, Christina is still trying to make sense of her illness. She is afraid to take on new work for now because she is afraid of looking like a spoiled actress who doesn’t work more than 5 hours a day.
However, that doesn’t mean the actress is saying goodbye to the movie industry forever. She needs time to understand what her body is capable of and in what conditions she could work, says Applegate. Christina promises that once she finds the answers to her questions, she will return to the movies.
We hope the actress, whom we have loved for many years, comes out victorious in her battle with this disease. And then makes a fabulous comeback to her favorite profession.
