In 2023, Aishwarya Rai celebrates her 50th birthday. This renowned Indian actress, who ventured into Hollywood, encountered a sudden wave of severe criticism upon embracing motherhood. Nonetheless, she courageously triumphed over challenges and remained steadfast in her authenticity. Undoubtedly, her narrative is poised to serve as an inspiration to countless women.

While still in college, Aishwarya embarked on her modeling journey. In 1994, she achieved the prestigious title of Miss World. Undoubtedly, her captivating allure caught the immediate attention of filmmakers. Swiftly, she ascended to stardom within the Indian film industry, eventually making a mark in the Western hemisphere as well. In fact, the media even called Rai “the most beautiful woman in the world.”

In 2006, the woman shared the screen with the renowned Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan. While working together, an immediate spark of affection ignited between them, leading to their marriage in 2007. In 2010, the actress made a decision to step away from her career, embarking on a 5-year hiatus.

Early in 2011, the reason became evident: the couple was expecting a child. Notably, given that Aishwarya was 38 years old, the pregnancy was classified as geriatric. Although many women in a similar situation might have chosen a Cesarean section, the actress opted for a conventional childbirth, even declining anesthesia. According to one of her relatives, Rai wanted a normal delivery.

On November 16, the adorable Aardhya was born, but Aishwarya has been subjected to a massive wave of negativity. The photographs of the former Miss World, taken when she was 5 months after giving birth, generated a commotion across social media.

Naturally, there were individuals who stood up in support of the actress, denouncing the public’s obsession with someone’s body weight as distasteful. Among those who voiced their support were both regular social media users and renowned fashion designers.

It wasn’t easy for her to stay strong under social pressure. However, Aishwarya had always been known for living by her own rules and not paying attention to stereotypes. It was probably her integrity and positive outlook on life that helped her go through body shaming with dignity, and enjoy motherhood to the fullest.

When asked if she was depressed by the way society treated her, she confidently replied, “When I became a mother, it was the most beautiful feeling in the world. There were several hormonal changes within, but it didn’t change anything. There was never a point of self-doubt. I’m so happy in my own life with Aaradhya around and the positivity as well as clarity that I have in my head about myself. Nobody else is dictating or telling me how to be and what to do.”

At a comfortable pace, without trying to please fans or producers, Rai regained her former shape, and then began filming again. It took her 4 years.

In 2023, the Indian actress impressed everyone by a spectacular appearance in a Sophie Couture dress at the Cannes Film Festival. At the same event, she gave a short interview about how to feel comfortable in your own body and not to judge others and yourself.

“Don’t go around attaching your judgement on others who make their choices. I think that’s just the way it should be. It’s a free world: live and let live,” she said. “I think when people tend to do that, it probably stems from insecurity. If you’re comfortable in your skin, and you’re comfortable being you, you really wouldn’t even expend that energy in being judgmental. It’s as simple as that.”

Aishwarya’s wisdom was shared by her husband in an interview: “My wife once told me that, ‘you get 10,000 positive comments but you get affected by one negative comment. You should concentrate on positivity and experience the beauty of the positive world’. So, I always try to look at things with positivity.”

It’s impossible to be liked by everyone at all times (unless you’re Keanu Reeves, of course). Whether you’re a celebrity or an ordinary person, there will be people who will point out your flaws. So let’s learn from Aishwarya to look at the world with positivity. No matter what anyone says.
