A young woman who was cruelly nicknamed “wolf girl” never let the hurtful labels define her. Despite the bullying, she held on to hope and believed she deserved happiness. In time, she met the love of her life — proving just how powerful self-belief and resilience can be.

Once labeled the world’s hairiest girl, she endured teasing and even fear from her classmates due to her appearance.

On August 5, 1999, a life-changing moment occurred for Supatra’s family. Like most parents welcoming a new baby, Sompon and Samrerng were filled with joy and anticipation.

However, their happiness was mixed with surprise, concern, and disbelief when doctors informed them that their newborn daughter had an unusually large amount of hair. At first, they assumed it was nothing out of the ordinary — but their astonishment grew when they saw her in the incubator. Supatra’s body was almost entirely covered in thick hair, a condition so rare that even experienced doctors in Thailand had never seen anything like it.

Later, doctors discovered that Natty had an exceptionally rare skin condition known as Ambras syndrome. This disorder is so unusual that only 50 cases similar to hers have been documented worldwide over a long period.

Ambras syndrome is a rare condition that causes excessive hair growth across the body, except on the palms, soles, and inside the mouth. It’s likely caused by a sudden DNA mutation.

When Supatra or “Natty” was born, and her mother was preparing to leave the hospital, doctors hesitated to discharge her, fearing she might abandon her baby. But Sompon firmly reassured them, saying she would never leave her child. “We’re lucky she was born into our family,” she said with conviction.

From her early years, Natty experienced the warmth of a loving family. However, not everyone understood her condition, and she had to confront unkindness from strangers and peers as she grew up.

As Natty progressed through her childhood, her face stayed concealed beneath a thick layer of hair, a result of her incurable Ambras syndrome. Traditional approaches like laser removal proved ineffective in slowing down her hair growth. In school, she encountered mockery because of her distinctive appearance.

Nevertheless, Natty couldn’t comprehend the reason behind their teasing. In her eyes, she saw herself as a regular girl with a bit more hair. She expressed, “It’s the way I am.”

At first, Natty’s teacher, Kuljira Posaeng, shared that other children were initially frightened by her appearance, making her early school days challenging. But over time, Natty proved she was just like any other student. She earned praise for her dedication and strong academic performance, eventually becoming one of the most popular kids in school.

Her teachers described her as a lively girl who loved singing, dancing, and acting. Her parents always treated her equally, never making her feel different or less important. They proudly took her everywhere, never ashamed or embarrassed by her unique appearance.

Eventually, Supatra discovered love in her life.

Natty has accepted her condition, recognizing that there’s no cure for it. She embraced the natural growth of her body hair, maintaining it as it had been since birth, only shaving her face when she entered her teenage years. As she matured, her self-esteem and self-image became increasingly significant, and she also discovered love.

She noted, “It began from friendship, then we became a couple.” Their conversations brought her joy, and being together felt natural, with a love she hadn’t anticipated: “It was a kind of love that I didn’t expect would happen to me.”

Later, Natty met her boyfriend and proudly called him “the love of my life.”

Natty shared photos with her partner, showing her face without facial hair, which led some to speculate she had been cured. However, her father clarified that she simply chose to shave to highlight her new look. Now, her eyes, face, mouth, lips, and cheeks are clearly visible, with only her forehead covered by hair from her head.

Having found love and happiness, Natty is dedicated to living positively and making a meaningful impact on society. She believes everyone is beautiful and unique, and she aims to inspire others to embrace their individuality and shine with confidence.

Jesús Aceves also has a condition that causes excessive hair growth on his face and back. Due to hypertrichosis, he has earned the nickname “The Wolf Man.” However, he is now determined to shed this moniker and pursue a more ordinary life.
