11 Celebrities Who Shared Their Unique and Curious Parenting Styles

year ago

Parenting styles and behaviors are affected by many factors. These include cultural, social, political and economic factors. There is also no single formula for raising a child. Each kid is unique, and each parent may have different approaches when it comes to their brood. But there are some folks — like the celebrities on this list — who may have unusual or interesting practices when it comes to their kids.

1. Kristen Bell’s 5-year-old child still wore diapers.

On her podcast, Momsplaining, Bell shared, 3 years ago, an experience she had with her 2 daughters regarding potty training. “My oldest daughter, at 21 months, we merely suggested that she use the toilet in the other room. Never wore a diaper beyond that.” But when it came to her youngest daughter, it wasn’t such an easy task.

“Currently, my youngest is 5 and a half. Still in diapers.” Bell admitted that everything is relative because “every kid is so different.” Not long after this statement, Bell and Shepard announced in an interview that after potty training every night, their daughter Delta could ditch diapers once and for all.

2. Julia Roberts doesn’t let her kids watch movies.

Even though she is one of Hollywood’s most successful actresses, Julia Roberts has revealed that her 3 children don’t watch many films or TV shows, and most definitely not hers. She said, ’’We have a pretty rigid viewing feeling in our house." The actress then added, ’’We’ll find our right time that will be happy and joyous for us to share that all together, but it probably isn’t in 2 weeks."

3. Kourtney Kardashian stopped using microwaves after being a mom.

The reality TV star has revealed that she hasn’t used a microwave since giving birth to her first child. She said, “When I had Mason, I did a lot of health-related research and decided to get rid of my microwave.” Kardashian added, “I read that toxins from plastic containers can be transferred to food when reheated.”

4. Gisele Bündchen uses natural medicine when her kids are sick.

Gisele Bündchen finds natural methods very important in terms of illnesses, like massaging her kids’ feet with aromatherapy oil before bed. Also, when her kids have a temperature, she puts slices of onion in their rooms.

Her most unconventional natural remedy is the cure she uses when her children have a sore throat. “I pour really cold milk onto a cloth, cover the outside of the cloth in plastic wrap, and arrange it around her throat. It’s a little stinky the next morning, but Vivi’s sore throats are usually gone.”

5. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher don’t give Christmas presents to their kids.

The star couple, who are parents to a 7-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, confessed that they don’t like to spoil them with gifts. The actress opened up, saying, “So far, our tradition is no presents for the kids... Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was 2...and we didn’t give her anything — it was the grandparents.’’ She explained, ’’The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don’t even know what they’re expecting; they’re just expecting stuff.”

6. Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed had one month of silence after giving birth.

While pregnant, the actress revealed that she and her husband, actor Ian Somerhalder, are planning “one month of silence” after the baby is born. She explained, “We’ll take the baby’s first month for ourselves.” Reed added, “Just the three of us, no visitors, and we’re turning off our phones too, so there’s no expectation for us to communicate.”

7. Megan Fox decided on no TV and no phone for her kids.

The American actress has admitted that her kids are allowed to watch movies, but the same thing doesn’t apply to TV. She explained, “With movies, I feel like there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end. There’s a clear story. I think that it’s different than just putting a kid in front of the television because it’s just nonstop.’’ She added that she is also against her kids having phones, saying, ’’My goal is no computers, no cell phones until at least eighth grade.”

8. Gordon and Tana Ramsay won’t let their kids fly first class.

Gordon Ramsay and his wife are both very strict when it comes to not spoiling their 5 kids. When they travel somewhere together, their kids fly in economy class while he and his wife fly first class.

“They don’t sit with us in first class. They haven’t worked anywhere near hard enough to afford that. At that age, at that size, you’re telling me they need to sit in first class? No, they do not. We’re really strict on that,” he explained.

9. Gwyneth Paltrow makes her kids watch TV only in French or in Spanish.

The actress, who is also a mother of 2, had a curious rule when it comes to watching TV. She admitted that her son and daughter are restricted from watching it in their native English language. She said, ’’I only let them watch TV in French or Spanish.’’ She explained further that she buys their cartoons whenever she’s in France.

The English actress revealed that some Disney films are a big no-no for her daughter to watch because she doesn’t agree with the message they give to young girls. She explained that Cinderella ’’is about waiting around for a rich guy to rescue her — no, rescue yourself!" The Little Mermaid is another movie she doesn’t fully agree with, saying, ’’The songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello?!"

11. Alicia Silverstone does not use diapers, and bird-feeds her baby.

The actress had revealed that she had started potty training her son at 6 months old. She explained, “Just like your baby tells you it needs to eat, or it’s tired, they tell you when they need to go to the bathroom.” She also added, “It’s the most natural, primal thing.” Alicia Silverstone then went on to admit that this approach is also good for our planet, saying, ’’You save tons of money on diapers, tons of time because it’s not as messy, and you’re also helping the earth!"

When her only son, Bear, was 10 months old, the actress posted a video showing her bird-feeding her child. This meant that she would chew the food in her own mouth, then place it in her child’s mouth. Silverstone defended her feeding style, saying to those who criticized her, “I do want to let you know that this has been going on for thousands of years [...] and it’s natural.” She added, “My kid is healthy. My kid’s the happiest baby ever. He didn’t have teeth, and he would choke.”
