The Oscar-winning star, advocate for the environment, and leg warmer-enthusiast, Jane Fonda told Vogue that women shouldn’t be afraid of aging. “I’m almost 85, but I don’t seem that old. So getting young people to stop being afraid of being old, helping people realize that just because you’re a certain age doesn’t mean you have to give up on life, give up on having fun, give up on having boyfriends or girlfriends, making new friends, or whatever you want to do.”

The actress acknowledges that she is privileged to have the means to hire a personal trainer, undergo plastic surgery, and take care of her skin. She had her first facelift in her 40s to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The second facelift took place in 2010, where the actress opted to tighten her skin for a more defined contour.

However, she also recognizes the importance of knowing when to stop and not go overboard: “We all know a lot of women who are wealthy who’ve had all kinds of facelifts and things like that and they look terrible. I had a facelift and I stopped because I don’t want to look distorted. I’m not proud of the fact that I had”. “I love older faces. I love lived-in faces. I loved Vanessa Redgrave’s face. I wish I was braver. But I am what I am.” — said Fonda.

She believes that there are many other ways to stay stunning.

When it’s simple to take a healthy body “for granted,” Fonda advised starting an active lifestyle young. This will improve one’s mobility and general wellness over time. She added, “I don’t do a lot of facials, I don’t spend a lot of money on face creams or anything like that, but I stay moisturized, I sleep, I move, I stay out of the sun, and I have good friends who make me laugh. Laughter is a good thing too.”

The actress continues to exercise, albeit at a more relaxed pace. Additionally, Fonda believes that maintaining good posture helps her look younger. “Your age is less chronological and more attitudinal,” she says.

Fonda is no stranger to openly discussing aging.

Through her well-known home training videos, which were popular in the 1980s, the Oscar winner has attempted to make wellness more accessible. The initial tutorial that Fonda and her team produced is still the most popular home video of all time, according to Fonda. “I know that the world is full of women who can’t afford to go to a gym or feel self-conscious about being in a gym or can’t go to a gym because they have a young child,” Fonda said.

She encourages everyone to embrace themselves in all ways.

“I was just fascinated with how [people embraced it],” she shared, talking about her home workout videos. “I mean, maybe people started doing it because they wanted to get thin, but women would say to me, ’I don’t take insulin anymore for my diabetes,’ or, ’I stood up to my boss for the first time because I could see the muscles in my arms.’ It empowered women in very profound ways. I was really happy about that.”

Not even cancer could break her spirit.

Jane was 84 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer, and she began chemotherapy treatment. “I will not allow cancer to keep me from doing all I can, using every tool in my toolbox and that very much includes continuing to build this Fire Drill Fridays community and finding new ways to use our collective strength to make change,” she wrote.

Fortunately, after a few months, the actress entered remission. Today, she feels well and continues to inspire us with her beauty and strength of spirit.

Plastic surgeries have become popular in our time. However, more and more celebrities openly express regret about their past cosmetic procedures or even choose to embrace aging gracefully without further facial alterations, embracing their natural beauty with love.
