A hero dog is being hailed as a lifesaver after he woke up his family from a house fire in Ontario, Canada. The pup, named Champ, was sleeping in the living room with his owners when he started barking and scratching at the door. The owners woke up to find smoke filling the house and flames coming from the basement.

“Champ saves the day!” Ontario Provincial Police wrote in a post on social media. "“[He] alerted his owners and everyone made it to safety [...] What a good boy!”

Afterward, the courageous firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and skillfully extinguished the raging blaze. Yet, the accolades and praises for Champ, the fearless hero, did not simply fade away in the shadows. Oh no, they echoed and resonated throughout the land, a testament to his gallantry and selflessness.

The modest hero of that fateful morning has since been lavished with an abundant outpouring of “good boys” from kind-hearted strangers on the internet — much-deserved praises from a devoted and adoring public.

“What a good, good boy! Way to go, Champ!” expressed one commenter, unable to contain their awe and admiration.

“Champ is a champion! Mega treats,” chimed in another, a testament to the undeniable truth.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, authorities are seizing this moment to emphasize the importance of fire safety. They understand the gravity of the situation and how drastically it could have unfolded if it weren’t for the presence of our esteemed canine hero.

“Not everyone has a Champ. Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan,” the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department stated. “When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms will give you early warning so you can get out quickly. Check your smoke [and] carbon monoxide alarms today!”

And if you thought Champ’s heroism was remarkable, just wait until you hear the heartwarming tale of Max, the loyal dog who never gave up on finding his missing best friend.
