Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Split After 27 Years of Marriage

Hugh Jackman, 54, and Deborra-Lee Jackman, 67, who have long been one of Hollywood’s enduring couples, left audiences in astonishment with the announcement of their impending separation. Despite being together for half their lifetimes and raising two children, the reason behind their forthcoming divorce has now been unveiled, and it defies conventional expectations.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness first crossed paths on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli in 1995. It was actor’s initial day on the job after completing drama school.

Hugh fondly recalls the moment, saying, “She was a big star. Everyone loved Deb. I get picked up by the car and Deb is in the front seat of the car. I get in the backseat. She had sunglasses on, she took off her seatbelt, turned around and said ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-Lee Furness, nice to meet you.’ and I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl’.”

Six weeks into filming, Jackman observed another man showing interest in Deborra-Lee and thought, “That man has a crush on her.” It was at that moment he realized he was, in fact, feeling jealous of the man, and he had developed a crush on her as well. A few days later, after a week of not speaking to her, he mustered the courage to confess his feelings. To his surprise and delight, she reciprocated his affection, admitting that she had been crushing on him too. And so, their love story began.

Hugh and Deborra-Lee tied the knot after 11 months of dating.

Over the subsequent years, the couple faced significant challenges with infertility, enduring numerous unsuccessful IVF attempts and, sadly, multiple miscarriages, all of which were “particularly difficult on Deb,” Jackman revealed. Originally, their plan had been to have one or two biological children and then adopt. However, they ultimately decided to move forward with adoption when they reached a point of exhaustion with IVF.

In 2000, they adopted their eldest son, Oscar, who is currently 23 years old, and their daughter Ava, in 2005, who recently celebrated her 18th birthday.
