“She Looks Like a Different Person,” Renée Zellweger’s “Unrecognizable” Appearance Sparks Heated Controversy
Renée Zellweger showcased a stylish pixie haircut on the cover of British Vogue’s February issue, marking a reunion with her “Bridget Jones’s Diary” co-star, Hugh Grant, who conducted the interview for the feature.
While preparing for the shoot, hairstylist Syd Hayes shared that he drew inspiration from David Bowie, particularly the late musician's fringe and jagged ends. However, he wasn't sure if Zellweger would be on board with such a bold transformation.
“When you’re cutting someone’s hair short, they’ve got to want to do it – it’s them who has to love it,” the hairstylist explained, noting that the actress was open to the idea of changing her look. “She was so open to it. It wasn’t about Bridget, but more about her as a person.”
The transformation sparked a strong reaction from fans in the comments, with many expressing their admiration for Zellweger’s new haircut. "I quite enjoy her with short hair," one fan wrote. Another added, "She’s on fire! What drop-dead gorgeous photos all of these are!"
However, not everyone was as enthusiastic. Many users expressed confusion over the extent of photo retouching and the noticeable changes in the actress's appearance. "She doesn't even look like the same person. Really pretty, but not the same face. It's crazy," one person pointed out. Other commenters echoed similar thoughts, saying, "Doesn't look like her at all," and "She had such an attractive, cute, unique look before. She looks like a different person now. Hard to believe that is even her!"
Earlier, two-time Academy Award-winning actress Renée Zellweger shared that she loves life in her fifties. "Turning 50 felt like a whole new beginning without the nonsense, the point where you can stop listening to all those voices in your head and all those expectations and projections people have of you and become more authentically yourself," Zellweger explained during an interview.
According to a 2019 study by Ipsos Global Advisor, 60% of Americans feel negatively about aging, finding the most fundamental beauty standard a compulsive fixation on youthfulness. But here comes Zellweger, breaking all the laws of young beauty standards, saying, “As long as we buy into the whole idea that society is obsessed with youth, then we perpetuate it.”
“So go get your hair done, or your skin fixed or have that day at the spa or whatever it is that makes you feel great. But let who you are and what you contribute and how you represent yourself at that age lead,” the actress added.
Zellweger has grown tired of cosmetic products whose ads try to convince people that they should seem younger than their actual age. She shared her thoughts about the problem with the beauty industry nowadays, specifically when it comes to anti-aging ads and products.
Meanwhile, Nelly Furtado is generating heated buzz as she showcases her body transformation in new bikini photos.
