Almost two decades after the cult classic The Devil Wears Prada changed the way we look at stilettos, Starbucks runs, and icy “that’s all” farewells, a sequel is officially happening. And yes, the legends are back: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. It’s the kind of news that makes you want to drop everything and rewatch the original immediately.

And because we are so excited, stick around until the end — we’ll share a bonus part — 3 reasons why we may have completely misjudged Miranda Priestly in the first film.

The Whiplash of “Will They, Won’t They?”

For years, fans have been toyed with:

October 2022 — Anne Hathaway shut down rumors, telling: “There’s not going to be a sequel. It’s not gonna happen. We can’t do it.”

April 2024 — She softened, telling: “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to... But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology... Maybe me, Stanley, Emily, Meryl, Patricia Field... we should just all do something else together. That’d be fun.”

And now? The impossible is real. Cameras are rolling. The devil is strutting back into Prada.

The New Storyline

According to insiders, the plot is pure drama: Miranda Priestly, still as ruthless as ever, is fighting to keep her throne in a world where glossy magazines are fading.

Emily Charlton (played by Blunt) has climbed to the top, now a high-powered executive at Christian Dior — and she holds the advertising dollars Miranda desperately needs. And Emily isn’t just playing corporate chess — she’s out for revenge, plotting with her billionaire boyfriend to buy Runway itself.

The Cast: Who’s In, Who’s Out

Get ready for a lineup that’s as sharp as Miranda’s glare.

Returning Icons: Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, Tucci, Tracie Thoms (Andy’s bestie Lily), and Tibor Feldman (Runway’s terrifying chairman Irv Ravitz).

New Faces: Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J Shen, and Conrad Ricamora.

Controversial News: Adrian Grenier’s Nate (a.k.a. Worst Boyfriend Ever) is not coming back.

The Big Surprise: Kenneth Branagh joins as Miranda’s new husband.

First Teaser: A Glimpse of Andy

The first still shows Anne Hathaway back as Andy Sachs — pinstriped waistcoat, trousers, and the kind of power stare that says she’s not the same girl who once tripped in Paris.

Filming is happening in both New York and Italy, with the premiere date set for May 1, 2026. Groundbreaking, indeed.

Bonus: 3 reasons why we’ve been misjudging Miranda in the first part.

  1. Miranda was only looking for perfection in everyone, she was not trying to be “bad.” Miranda’s infamous nickname as the “Devil” makes its presence felt from the very beginning of the film, when Andy, the protagonist, shows up at the office. From one moment to the next, everyone who works there becomes upset when they learn that their boss will be arriving soon. It is then that we can notice one of Miranda’s characteristics and her main yearning, which is the search for perfection.
This can be defined in 3 different ways, but the one that characterizes Miranda is other-oriented perfectionism. It defines people who expect excellence from those around them (in Miranda’s case, from all those in her charge).

2. Miranda passed on teachings throughout the story, especially to Andy. Andy comes to the industry knowing practically nothing about it, so meeting this highly demanding boss who is in constant search of perfection teaches her several lessons. One of them is professional excellence, given the high demands within Runway magazine.

Other lessons include attention to detail, giving everything of oneself, and resilience pushed to the limit. This can be seen in scenes like the one with the belts, where Priestly gives Andy a speech about the importance of having a detail-oriented eye. Later, she even begins to ask her for almost impossible tasks to accomplish, like buying a book that has not yet been published, proving to her that she can be able to accomplish almost anything.

3. Beyond appearances, she was an empathetic person. Miranda sees in Andy a reflection of herself. At the beginning of the film, Andy questions and defends her way of being with a lot of self-esteem. This is appreciated by Priestly, who identifies with seeing a young woman, unafraid to make her mark on the world.

This can also be perceived in 2 ways. First, Emily, Miranda’s personal assistant, is devoted to her boss, questions nothing, and is always attentive. This leads her to do an exceptional job, but Miranda sees no greater aspirations in her. On the other hand, at the end of the film, Miranda looks with pride at Andy, seeing her become a professional with the tools and the desire to excel in life.

With the iconic cast stepping back into their roles, a bold new storyline set in today’s digital-driven fashion world, and filming already underway in New York and Italy, the sequel feels destined to become another cultural moment.
