The Story of the Strong Love of Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Who Went Through Many Challenges, Including the Loss of a Child
Gordon Ramsay is famous for his serious cooking style. Some may believe he acts that way all the time, but his wife shares he is truly a caring and affectionate person who does not resemble his on-screen persona. We got a glimpse behind this lovely couple’s family life and were moved by their intricate yet heartfelt story.
“We really wanted to be together.”
Gordon and Tana met in 1992. He visited the place where he kept his bike and came across Tana. He really liked her, but she was already with his friend, Tim.
Rather than fighting for her, Gordon waited for Tana to become available. When she broke up with Tim, he took the chance and made the first move. He was very nervous and even bumped into her by mistake on their first date, but this didn’t stop their love from growing.
At the start of their relationship, Tana and Gordon faced their first challenge. Gordon had a desire to become a skilled chef in London’s finest restaurants, which meant he worked 16-hour days. During that time, they had very little free time together, but Tana was understanding, and they appreciated the few hours they could spend with each other when Gordon wasn’t working.
Their rare meetings proved to be valuable. They got married in Chelsey just before Christmas in 1996. Their relationship continued to thrive, even though their time together was limited in the beginning and was only the first of many challenges they had to overcome.
“I could have done it without him right there by my side.”
After getting married, Gordon and Tana faced challenges in their quest to have a child. First, Tana was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, and later Gordon faced fertility problems. Undeterred, they decided to explore IVF as an option. Fortunately, it proved successful and they welcomed their first daughter, Megan, in 1998. But their family continued to grow as, about a year later, they joyfully welcomed twins, Jack and Holly.
In 2001, the family welcomed another chef into the world, the youngest, Matilda. Matilda began appearing on her father’s cooking shows at the tender age of 9, and by the time she was 14, she had her own show, Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch, featuring all the members of their large and loving family.
After having four children, Gordon and Tana faced a devastating loss. In May 2016, they announced that they were expecting another baby, only to learn a month later that the baby would not be born. Gordon’s support was particularly important to Tana at this difficult time. She noted that Gordon hadn’t been able to be there for the births of their first four children, but he was by her side during this most difficult time.
In 2021 Tana wrote a post on Instagram to support other parents. The loss only made the family stronger and the couple was even more attentive to each other. Gordon never left Tana and in April 2019, he was near her when she had their 5th baby, Oscar.
This is the story of how the Ramsay family found healing after their loss. Little Oscar was surrounded by the love and care of his parents and siblings. In addition, Gordon and Tana have expressed their plans to expand their family, possibly with a sixth and even a seventh child.
“It could happen at any time to anyone.”
“We were devastated, but thankfully we’re through the worst now. It could happen at any time to anyone,” — this is how Gordon described what happened. Their personal loss was the catalyst for the creation of the Gordon and Tana Ramsay Foundation. The Foundation works closely with charities such as Great Ormond Street Hospital to raise funds for children facing long-term hospitalisation due to illness. This remarkable organisation has made a significant impact, providing invaluable support to many families.
They’re willing to do anything for each other.
During the 1990s, Gordon was so immersed in his work that he paid minimal attention to exercise and proper nutrition. His meals at work consisted mainly of snacks, leading to concerns about his health and the potential impact on his loved ones.
In response, Gordon embarked on a radical mission to make up for lost time by preparing for the Ironman Triathlon. This gruelling event required him to swim 1.2 miles, cycle 56 miles and run 13.1 miles. Under the guidance of a coach, his training regimen included extensive swimming, rowing, weight training, three hours of stationary cycling each week and particularly challenging Sunday hill workouts in the Surrey countryside.
For Tana, Gordon managed to lose 56 pounds and he started to enjoy sports. So, in 2013, he first finished the Ironman triathlon and has been an active participant since then. On top of that, he plays football and participates in mixed martial arts.
The strong marriage ties helped Gordon and Tana deal with 2 serious trust tests. So, at the end of 2008, a woman named Sarah Symonds claimed that she had been in a 7-year-long romance with Ramsay. Gordon said it was a lie and apologized to Tana for the news that really disappointed her. She accepted the apology because she trusted him.
And Gordon was understanding when it was found that Tana’s father embezzled more than 1.5 million pounds when he was working for Ramsay. Gordon said it made their family stronger.
“We have always been a team.”
Initially, Tana focused on caring for her husband and children. But in November 2011, she declared that she would shift from being a homemaker to becoming an entrepreneur. She opened a beauty salon named All About The Girl. During the tough early days of Gordon’s 16-hour workdays, Tana was patient with him. Now that the roles have reversed, it’s his turn to show her support. He fully supported his wife in achieving her dream.
This exceptional couple faced many challenges but consistently maintained love, encouragement, and trust for each other. Even though such challenges might normally strain any relationship, the Ramsay family did not avoid difficulties. Tana shared the secret to their long-lasting relationship and how she and Gordon managed to stick together for so many years in an interview:
