11 Crazy Fan Theories That Could Change Everything We Knew About Our Favorite Movies
The moment a movie is released and becomes popular, there are many different interpretations about certain facts in the film. Harry Potter for example, has been the center of these fan theories for decades now and the conversations about them seem like they’ll never stop. But there are also other theories that try to connect the characters of different movies and present a completely different image.
1. Jane is Belle’s granddaughter.
Just look at how similar Jane and Belle are: they have similar faces, brown hair, and wear similar yellow dresses. Both of their fathers are little weird and the men they fell in love with are wildish. Even the fact that Belle is French and Jane is English has never confused their fans: the action of Beauty and the Beast takes place before the French Revolution, after which Belle and Adam, who are aristocrats, or their descendants could’ve fled to England and settled there.
2. Harry Potter is a distant relative of Godric Gryffindor.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the boy is accused of his possible relation to Salazar Slytherin due to his ability to communicate with snakes. But in reality, it might actually be very different. According to a fan theory, Harry Potter is not an heir of Slytherin but of Gryffindor. The theory is based on the fact that in the end, the boy beats the true heir of Slytherin — Tom Riddle, putting an end to the old conflict between the Hogwarts founders.
3. Rapunzel is Anna and Elsa’s cousin.
In Frozen, Anna and Elsa’s parents are shipwrecked and never come back. One of the movie’s directors, Jennifer Lee, once said that they were going to a wedding, this gave fans a good reason to think that the wedding they were going to was Rapunzel’s.
The action in Frozen takes place 3 years after the shipwreck and the wedding. Tangled was released on November 24th 2010, exactly 3 years before Frozen, which was released on November 27th 2013.
4. Mary Poppins also went to Hogwarts.
Mary Poppins may actually be a Hogwarts graduate that decided to return to the Muggle world after finishing school. In order not to give up on magic completely, she hid her wand in an umbrella, just like Hagrid did. And she also uses flying spells and wears a bag like Hermione’s in the final book.
5. The donkey from Shrek comes from the story of Pinocchio.
All the characters in Shrek come from a specific group of fairytales: Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, and Rapunzel, among others. This leads some to wonder about Donkey’s original story, and, unsurprisingly, there’s a theory for him too: It’s believed that he comes from the story of Pinocchio because, in the wooden boy’s world, there’s a haunted place called “Pleasure Island” where children become donkeys.
In the 1940 Disney animated film, some of the kids who transform into donkeys appear to maintain their human thinking and speaking abilities. In addition, this hypothesis is based on the fact that Donkey seems to have memories of having been human, such as when he recounts to Puss in Boots that he remembered wearing underwear.
6. Hagrid couldn’t have children.
According to a fan theory, Rubeus Hagrid couldn’t have children. From the books, we know that Hagrid’s father was a wizard and his mother was a giant. Even though this marriage gave us the Hagrid that we love, he is still a hybrid that can’t have children.
7. Riverdale is all in Jughead’s head.
Riverdale shows us the art of breaking patterns with more and more ridiculous twists and turns at the end of every season. The story is often framed in the arc of Jughead’s storytelling, so it could just be a story he’s writing. Betty is a character that he made up to deal with loneliness, and Archie is a memory of a kid he idolized in high school.
8. Credence is Snape’s grandfather.
Poor Credence Barebone is a very interesting figure — fans thought that he was Voldemort’s father and even Snape’s grandfather. Snape was born to a family of a witch and a muggle. His mother, Eileen Prince, was born in the 1930s, and because the events described in Fantastic Beasts took place in 1926, Credence might be her father.
9. Jack is a part of The Terminator universe.
The Terminator films are all about saving the human race from the rise of sentient cyborgs. Kyle Reese and a cyborg were sent to make sure that Sarah and John Connor would survive. According to one fan’s theory, Jack was sent back in time to make sure Rose gave birth to Sarah Connor’s mother. So, in fact, Rose is Sarah’s grandmother.
10. Hermione might be Harry’s sister.
Harry and Hermione always had a good relationship, and they often acted like brother and sister. There’s a theory that says James and Lily actually had 2 kids: a boy and a girl. For some reason, the girl was adopted by the Grangers, who raised the girl like their child. If the theory is true, it’s clear why Harry and Hermione never even had a hint of romance between them.
11. Captain America is Star-Lord’s grandfather.
The actress who played Star-Lord’s mother, Chris Pratt’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, had a cameo appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger. She appears as one of the followers who meets the superhero in the campaign to support America’s soldiers during World War II. This wasn’t ignored by fans, who speculated that the meeting was more intimate than the cameras exposed and led to her getting pregnant.
This happened in the mid-1940s, and since Star-Lord is known to have been born in 1980, the timeline indicates that Steve Rogers could be his grandfather. This would also explain why he’s more powerful than his father Ego’s other children, as noticed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. However, director James Gunn publicly denied this unofficial account and claimed that the grandfather, who appears in the movies of the saga, is the Star-Lord’s Mother’s true biological father.
