“I Wasn’t Me”: How a Botched Plastic Surgery in the 2000s Nearly Ruined Priyanka Chopra’s Life

Priyanka Chopra bravely shares her experience with a botched face surgery in the early 2000s, a period that earned her the unfortunate nickname ’Plastic Chopra’. Reflecting on the procedure that went awry and nearly derailed her career, the actress admits, “I went into a deep, deep depression.” Despite her remarkable triumph as Miss World 2000 and her current status as one of the most beautiful stars in the industry, it may be surprising to imagine Chopra grappling with body image issues. This is precisely why her candid honesty is truly commendable.

Her face was transformed.

During a recent interview, the 40-year-old celebrity revisited a distressing event from the early 2000s when a polyp removal procedure in her nasal cavity took an unexpected turn. Reflecting on that challenging time, she openly shared how the experience plunged her into a state of serious depression, confessing, ’’This thing happens, and my face looks completely different.’’

At first, she harbored doubts about undergoing surgery, but it was her late father, Ashok, who happened to be a doctor as well, that ultimately persuaded her to proceed with the corrective procedure.

The change had a profound impact on her career.

According to Chopra, the aftermath of the unsuccessful surgical procedure led to job termination from film projects and instilled apprehension that it could prematurely end her acting career.

Chopra expressed her gratitude towards Bollywood director Anil Sharma for playing a pivotal role in restoring her self-assurance, especially on the big screen. She revealed that although initially cast as the lead, she was later demoted to a supporting character. Thankfully, the director proved to be “very kind” in handling the situation.

In her autobiography, Unfinished, published in February 2021, Chopra delved deeper into the details of the failed surgery and its aftermath. She shared that the unfortunate outcome of the procedure led to hurtful online comments and trolls labeling her as ’’Plastic Chopra.’’

The surgery was supposed to be risk-free.

As a young adult, Chopra came across a benign growth in her nasal cavity that necessitated surgical intervention for removal.

She candidly shared this event in her book, writing, ’’Fortunately, a polypectomy sounded like a pretty routine procedure. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.’’ She went on to reveal that the surgeon ’’accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed.’’

During that time, as the former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra was already gaining fame in India, largely due to her striking appearance. The surgery had a profound impact on her, leaving her feeling “horrified.” She expressed, ’’My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me.’’

Nevertheless, Chopra managed to turn this distressing experience into an empowering one. She shared, ’’My difference is my strength. If I looked like other ’classically beautiful’ girls, then I wouldn’t stand out, and more important, I wouldn’t be me.’’

Today, the actress takes pride in her appearance.

Chopra revealed that she underwent “several corrective surgeries” and has finally become accustomed to her transformed face. She shared, ’’Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me...’’

We find Priyanka Chopra to be absolutely gorgeous, and her candid honesty exemplifies the beauty of her soul as well. Additionally, she openly shared how she and her husband Nick Jonas faced criticism for choosing surrogacy for the birth of their daughter.
