10 A-Listers Whose Achievements Are Likely Overrated, According to Some Internet Users

Most of us probably know that there are so-called A-listers among actors. These are the most popular celebrities whose talent has been recognized all over the world. They have appeared in multiple big-budget blockbusters and won various awards. However, there are some viewers who believe that the achievements of these actors are totally overrated.

Brad Pitt

  • Brad Pitt is one of the worst actors Hollywood has ever churned out. Sure, he’s eye candy for the ladies, but every single movie he has been in could’ve been better with a different actor. © maui_is_calling / Reddit
  • He’s rich without much talent, born with good genes, and still has all of his hair. He is the same boring “character” in every movie. © maui_is_calling / Reddit
  • I’ve always found him, I don’t know, self-conscious. Like he always comes across as “Hey. look at me, I’m acting!” instead of disappearing into the role. © unknown / Reddit

Tom Cruise

  • The problem I have with Tom Cruise is that I cannot dissociate the actor from the character. When I see him on the screen, I don’t see the character he’s playing. I just see Tom Cruise. None of his roles are believable. © Robert Cannon / Quora
  • Tom Cruise, unfortunately, acts in movies I want to see but certainly not because of him. In most of his roles, he is the same character. Cocky and arrogant, without depth, and a character who thinks they can take on the world. © Shawn Bloxham / Quora

Jennifer Lawrence

  • The only things she’s ever good at doing are crying and freaking out in most of her movies. Hell, The Hunger Games was nothing but an emotional cryfest. There is just something about her I can’t stand, the faces she makes, the way she delivers her lines, and the very cliché character archetypes that she plays brings nothing new and original. © Aamer Tahseen / Quora
  • She’s one of those actresses who can only play one type. And when that type is Katniss, who spends most of the movie as a shell-shocked, emotionless girl, you are not that skilled of an actress. © Jean Willow / Quora
  • I admit, she is hot and she’s a pretty good actress. But she is highly overpraised with accolades and even received an Academy Award in a surprisingly short period of time, whereas Leonardo DiCaprio had to wait ages to get one, and many deserving actors and actresses are yet to get one. There are actresses who are more beautiful and can act better than her. © Sandy Praharsha / Quora

Zendaya

  • Apparently, something is wrong with Zendaya’s face. This is the only explanation I can think of as to why she hasn’t changed her expression in the 3 movies I’ve seen her in: the furrowed brow and constipated look. In the scene in Dune where she gives Paul her knife before he fights to the death, her expression doesn’t change. You’d think she was offering him her Costco discount card.
  • People like her for her fashion sense but not for her acting. Her acting is average, you know, in Spider-Man she always looked so tired and was unable to express love. © TheQveenGomez / Quora
  • She’s just bland. I only notice her in anything because of how dull she inevitably makes any scene she’s in. She just doesn’t seem to have any range. © Thomas White / Quora

Emma Watson

  • Emma Watson is just not very diverse, and it’s no wonder that her peak hit in a mainstream franchise, such as Harry Potter, where the acting ability of the main characters is not the decisive factor in the film’s critical success. Films such as The Circle demonstrate her somewhat limited acting ability, for example. So if you haven’t seen that, give it a watch and tell me that I’m right. © Remy Giudicelli / Quora
  • She truly cannot act. The critics basically hold up the ratings for her in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, a film devoid of substance. I think her career will fizzle out soon. © Zhang Song Quan / Quora
  • Emma Watson is smart and well-spoken, but still, I don’t think she deserves as much veneration as she does. She’s mostly loved by Harry Potter fans who were growing up on these films. Watch the movies starring Watson, and in most cases, she played Hermione. © Cristian Montes de Oca / Quora

Melissa McCarthy

  • Every movie she’s in has the same personality, which is this “stereotypical” fat woman who is clumsy, humorless, and insensible. Even when McCarthy plays a side character, she drags the whole movie down with her horrendously bad jokes and stale personality. © ImFinnaDip / Reddit
  • I cannot stand her. I watched Identity Thief, loved Jason Bateman in it but I feel like she ruined that movie. That was the only movie she was in that I could stand to watch. © Smil3yAngel / Reddit

Ryan Reynolds

  • Reynolds is always the snarky, pessimistic, sarcastic guy. He has the humor of a 14-year-old who’s just discovered dark humor. © Dipski64 / Reddit
  • I haven’t seen anyone praise Ryan Reynolds for his acting. He mostly gets praised for the movies. I don’t watch him alone but he’s really fun to watch with a group. © thatrandomanus / Reddit
  • I think Ryan Reynolds is starting to suffer from studios wanting to cast Ryan Reynolds. Most of the films he’s in are written in a similar style, designed to bring out that same Deadpool-style character. © Striking-Lifeguard34 / Reddit

Leonardo DiCaprio

  • I’ve grown up watching his movies and I believe Leo plays the same scowling, whiny, obnoxious, intense guy in almost every movie he’s done. He’s never been great actor. He’s extremally one-note and can’t get out if his comfort zone. The only exception that comes to mind is What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993). © Tina Aileen / Quora
  • I don’t get why he is the biggest star in the world and every 12-year-old girl’s celebrity crush. He was great in Titanic and he has a great resume in terms of movies, but in my opinion, there are much more talented actors in Hollywood who don’t get as much attention. © Danielle Bregoli / Quora
  • Is he a good actor? Sure. But not nearly as amazing as people make him out to be. Shouting. Wild gesticulations. Smoldering stares. These are trademark “techniques” that people mistakenly equate with fine acting, but they don’t help DiCaprio be convincing in his roles. © David Kim / Quora

Mark Wahlberg

  • I don’t dislike Mark Wahlberg, I actually tend to like most of the movies he’s been in, but I don’t rate him as an actor. You see, Mark has one role that he is very good at: slightly pissed off Boston bro with furrowed eyebrows. That is literally it, every single movie he’s in he plays the exact same slightly pissed off guy. He has zero range. © David Henderson / Quora
  • I like him in some movies, but he is pretty one-dimensional. When his character is sort of close to his own demeanor, then it works. But I think there are plenty more underrated actors with better range. © Mattdehaven / Reddit
  • As much as I love his movies, I think his acting skills are average at best. Isn’t it funny when you like the characters an actor portrays, but don’t find their acting skills as good as their roles?

Angelina Jolie

  • Yes, she won an award for Girl Interrupted, but I’ve watched a few of her movies and honestly she is not that great. Being John Voight’s daughter really secured her roles she didn’t deserve. © BrilliantBid3548 / Reddit
  • She was good in Hackers and okay in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The rest of what I’ve seen wasn’t all that great. © Termiteposition / Reddit
  • I just watched Changeling and it was awful. © BrilliantBid3548 / Reddit
