14 Celebrities Who Don’t Let Other People’s Comments Define Their Looks

year ago

Society has many expectations regarding people’s appearances despite the fact that we are all unique in our looks. Celebrities are no exception, and because they are always at the center of attention, it might be even harder for them to be truly themselves because some people might judge them. So let’s get inspired by those of them who embrace their natural features.

1. Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff looks absolutely gorgeous every time she is on the red carpet, but not thanks to cosmetics or designer clothes. The actress, who doesn’t shy away from posting no-makeup pics with her loved ones, looks just as good, so we know for sure — the beauty is in her sincere smile.

2. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez showed off her incredible muscles, saying she feels like Superwoman. By her posting this picture of her athletic physique, Jennifer continues to break the stereotypes, proving you can be feminine and have muscles, too!

3. Andie MacDowell

The 63-year-old actress revealed that she was once asked in an interview how it felt to get older and lose her beauty, and the question shocked her. “I just couldn’t believe it. I told her I really don’t feel like I’m losing my beauty, it’s just a different kind of beauty,” she said. “Aging is not about losing your beauty. I have to say, I’ve never felt more beautiful,” she continued.

4. Janelle Monáe

Singer Janelle Monáe defied beauty standards when she arrived at the 2022 Met Gala in a futuristic gown with fuzzy underarms.

5. Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks used a throwback post moment to educate her fans about focusing on yourself rather than pleasing other people. As a 14-year-old, she used to worry about how she looked. Now, she has learned that it’s better to make yourself feel beautiful for yourself and not because you want others’ approval. She ended her post with a powerful statement: “Being praised for my looks is nice but not nearly as satisfying as being praised for my accomplishments or deeds.”

6. Lizzo

Lizzo’s songs have always been about body positivity, so it’s no wonder that she supports the body positivity movement in interviews, too. She supports everyone, because “inclusivity is what my message is always about,” she says.

7. Reese Witherspoon

The Legally Blonde actress admits she feels much more comfortable in her 40s than in her 20s. “I have a point of view because I’ve been on this planet for 43 years, and I didn’t feel that same way when I was 25. I didn’t have the same things to say. I’m 43 and I’ve had a whole bunch of experiences, and I can speak with thoughtfulness about the changes I’d like to see in the world, and... I just feel like I earned that gray hair and my fine lines. I like ’em. I so prefer 43 to 25,” she said.

8. Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham made history and smashed the glass ceiling in beauty standards when she became the first-ever plus-size model to be featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. She has continued to challenge the norm by sharing raw photos of her pregnancy journey including getting real about stretch marks.

9. Serena Williams

Being an incredible and powerful tennis player, Serena’s work can definitely be seen on her body. She, like many other girls, used to believe that being different was something negative, something to be ashamed of.

“When I was growing up, what was celebrated was different. Venus looked more like what is really acceptable: she has incredibly long legs, she’s really, really thin,” she says. Now, she’s thankful for her body, and this development is what we adore seeing in women.

The supermodel may have made her flawless complexion her trademark, but as she’s getting older she’s learning to love her wrinkles. “Everybody is so anti-aging, but I don’t want to look younger than I am. Our face is a map of our life, the more that’s there, the better,” she said.

11. Rachel Bloom

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend writer and star Rachel Bloom isn’t afraid to show her flaws and break the taboo on normal female hormone cycles. She shared a photo of her acne during the shooting season saying that the hectic schedule and her peak hormonal cycle are causing her acne to run amok.

12. Aidy Bryant

Aidy smashed all society standards that rule over women’s bodies by not caring about what others think of her. In an interview, Aidy stated: “What if I put all of that energy into just trying to like myself and focus on the things I actually want to do, as opposed to this thing that’s like a made-up concept? And I’m not kidding, my entire life changed after I did that.”

13. Lady Gaga

Fresh from her Super Bowl halftime performance, Gaga addressed the comments about her body saying that she is proud of her body and everyone should be proud of theirs too. She then gave a piece of powerful advice to her fans who feel the need to cater to anybody: “Be you, be relentlessly you.”

14. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawerence had to fight to be heard when she didn’t want to lose any weight for her role in Hunger Games. While she understood how the novels were famous and that the character was a starving girl fighting who did her best to win the hunger games, she also considered that the audience was mainly young women. She said, “I don’t know if I want all of the girls who are going to dress up as Katniss to feel like they can’t because they’re not a certain weight. And I can’t let that seep into my brain either.”

Have you ever done something, or dressed in a way to break society’s standards?
