7 Practical Tips to Prevent and Treat Those Stubborn Bumps
Warts are very common amongst children and adults, affecting about 33% of them. For example, people who work with raw meat, those who use communal showers and people with eczema are in higher danger of growing warts. There are certain things that those who have them can do to prevent transferring them to others. However, before following any home remedy, you should consult with your doctor so they can tell you which method will be more beneficial.
1. Don’t use someone else’s towel.
Sharing a towel with your family members from time to time may seem harmless, but it’s actually one of the reasons why annoying papillomas and warts can appear on your skin. If someone in your family has a wart, there’s a chance using the same towel will transmit it from one person to another. Make sure everyone has their own towels and other personal items, such as washcloths and nail clippers.
2. Use dandelions
Dandelions are a common weed that sprouts in spring and they have been used for their medicinal benefits in Chinese and Middle Eastern medicine for a very long time. Warts can be treated using dandelion milk, or sap, which is found in their stems.
Procedure:
- Choose dandelions that grow naturally in fields and that haven’t been sprayed with any chemicals.
- Pluck off the flower at the bottom while trying to leave the stem intact.
- Squeeze the sticky, milky sap onto the wart.
- Repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times a day for approximately 2 weeks or until the wart disappears.
3. Make sure to wear flip-flops at the pool.
While it may feel pleasant to walk barefoot on the warm floor around the swimming pool, there are actually many reasons to put your flip-flops on, and preventing warts is one of them. Warm and humid environments create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, and when your skin is moist and soft it makes it more vulnerable to various infections, including Human papillomavirus. Wearing your flip-flops at public showers and swimming pools can reduce your risk of getting warts on your feet.
4. Use garlic.
What to do:
- Take 1 clove of garlic, crush it up, and mix it with some water.
- Apply the mixture to your wart and cover it with a bandage.
- Repeat the process every day until the wart disappears.
Why it works:
✅ The main component of garlic, allicin, produces an antimicrobial effect by destroying enzymes in harmful pathogens.
✅ It also helps treat fungal and viral infections.
5. Avoid shaving over a wart.
Shaving allows you to get rid of unwanted hair in no time, but if you have a wart it’s better to opt for other hair removal methods. When you shave, you create micro cuts in your skin, and it may spread the virus that causes warts to any skin that you shave. Shaving over a wart and then shaving other areas on your body can lead to several new warts on your skin.
6. Use pineapple
Pineapple juice can be a huge ally when removing warts since it is highly acidic and contains bromelain, a protein-digesting enzyme that helps destroy the wart.
Procedure:
- Soak a piece of cotton in pineapple juice and squeeze out the excess liquid.
- Carefully apply it to the wart without applying too much pressure.
- Wrap the cotton pad with a bandage.
- Leave it on for 3-5 minutes.
- Repeat 2-3 times a day to get faster results.
7. Moisturize your skin.
Keeping your skin hydrated is essential for helping it stay youthful and wrinkle-free for longer. But using the right moisturizer regularly can also help to prevent warts. When your skin is overly dry, it makes it easier for Human papillomavirus to get through cracks in your skin and cause those disturbing warts to appear.
Sometimes even the simplest things we do every day can affect our health. That’s why it’s important to recognize them and act when possible.
