9 Funny and Awkward Situations That Movie Actors Had to Deal With on Set
When we watch movies starring our favorite actors, we tend to admire their characters’ beauty, quick-wittedness, charisma, and strength. Everything in their life seems perfect and enviable. But is it really so, or is it just the magic of movies that makes us believe in this ideal picture? We decided to take a peek behind the scenes and find out what was really happening during the production of some popular movies. And, as it turns out, the actors sometimes had to deal with very unusual and even awkward situations.
Dave Franco — Neighbors
Dave Franco experienced a really awkward moment while filming Neighbors. One day, he had to shoot the scene where he was supposed to get undressed. He was quite nervous about it, but this was not his only problem. The fact is that he noticed a big pimple on his butt that same morning. Because of this, he had to ask a makeup artist, who was also a stranger to him, to put some makeup right on his butt. And it was, as we’d expect, awkward.
Liam Hemsworth — The Hunger Games
Liam Hemsworth once revealed in an interview that he felt really uncomfortable in the scenes where he had to kiss Jennifer Lawrence’s character. He said, “She’s one of my best friends, I love her, but if we had a kissing scene, she would make a point of eating garlic or tuna fish or something that was disgusting. Right before the scene, she’d be like, ’Yeah, I ate tuna,’ or ’I had garlic and I didn’t brush my teeth.’ And I’d be like, ’Fantastic, I can’t wait to get in there and taste it!’”
Alyson Hannigan — How I Met Your Mother
While filming the series, How I Met Your Mother, Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel became really good friends, and it was easy for them to play a married couple. But the actress didn’t really enjoy kissing him because Segel was a smoker, and she can’t stand the tobacco taste. “I cannot stand cigarette smoke. It’s like kissing an ashtray and he’s trying to be polite by having gum or mints, but it doesn’t help,” she revealed. Luckily, Segel mustered up the willpower to quit smoking.
Lily James — Cinderella
Lily James revealed that she endured wearing the corset with “blood, sweat, and tears” while filming the movie, Cinderella. The corset was so tight that she couldn’t breathe in it and would burp in Richard Madden’s face all day.
Ellen Burstyn — The Exorcist
Ellen Burstyn still shudders every time she recalls a certain scene from the movie, The Exorcist. To film it, the actress was tied with cables and dragged until she screamed in pain. The film director was happy with the genuine emotion Burstyn managed to produce, but the actress had to use crutches till the end of filming.
Halle Berry — Jungle Fever
Halle Berry revealed that she had to work hard to gain film directors’ trust at the beginning of her career. That being said, she went the extra mile to play a role in the movie, Jungle Fever, and she stopped taking showers for almost 2 weeks. According to her, she felt really sorry for her fellow actors because they couldn’t escape her smell.
Arnold Schwarzenegger — Batman & Robin
Arnold Schwarzenegger rarely plays villains, but in 1997, he agreed to take on the role of Mr. Freeze in the superhero movie, Batman & Robin. However, he didn’t really enjoy this experience because of his costume. The fact is, when they were filming close-ups, costume designers placed LED lights inside the actor’s mouth. But his saliva would creep into the seams of this device and attack the batteries. The batteries would start disintegrating and pouring out battery acid right into his mouth. Obviously, the actor wasn’t very happy with this.
Leonardo DiCaprio — The Revenant
After winning a coveted Oscar, Leonardo DiCaprio revealed that he had to deal with a lot of rather disgusting things while filming The Revenant. The actor said that he was willing to do anything to get into character, but he would prefer not to repeat some of these things in the future. Among the things that he hated the most were jumping into an icy river and eating a raw bison liver. And we can easily understand why.
Emilia Clarke — Game of Thrones
Emilia Clarke also experienced an awkward moment while on set. It happened while she was filming Game of Thrones. In one of the scenes, she had to be covered in blood, so makeup artists poured fake blood all over her. The problem was that it was really sticky, and the actress was constantly sticking to anything she touched. At one point, she vanished from the set. As it turned out, she’d gotten stuck to the toilet.
