Building a family is difficult. Some say there’s never a perfect time for it, and with the demands and rush of modern life, that may be true. However, people who truly wish to become parents are ready to accept almost any challenge to make it happen, including waiting and facing uncertainty. Today, the story of Cameron Diaz, who began her journey to motherhood at age 47, helps us realize that even celebrities face these kinds of important decisions.

At Now I’ve Seen Everything, we believe there are stories worth sharing because we can identify with or be inspired by them. That’s why, below, you can learn about the challenges and joys of starting a family life at any age.

A long journey to motherhood

In December 2019, Cameron Diaz and her husband, Benji Madden, became parents for the first time in their lives. This news went viral online and became a popular topic of conversation about late motherhood. Diaz gave new hope to women who gave up trying to have a baby.

Although the actress tries to keep this matter private, her inner circle commented that the couple tried for years to conceive before finally having their daughter, Raddix. “They went through a lot to get to this point,” a source said.

Diaz said that she gave more than half of her life to the public and now feels it’s okay to “take some time for myself, to reorganize and choose how I want to come back [to the world].” She is happy, blessed and grateful to start a new decade with her daughter, and one of her main goals is to care for and protect her little girl.

Not so many pictures of dogs on your phone anymore.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Diaz confessed that spending time with her daughter was a dream come true. And we believe her, because she looks so fresh and peaceful. Cameron tries to enjoy every moment, because “every day there are leaps and bounds, and these things happen, and the next day she’s not the same baby she was yesterday.”

She went on to explain that these things have never happened to her and Benji: “It’s so rewarding to be able to see that growth and be a part of it, to help it be her. It’s just amazing.”

Diaz makes takes things in a very chill way and she’s even able to laugh at her self: she says her phone isn’t so full of pictures of her dogs anymore (and she has 4 of them). Now, Baby Shark and Elmo’s Song play in the house all the time, and the whole family loves that. Cameron is a proud mom who enjoys seeing her daughter looking at her dad with boundless love.

There is still pressure to be a mother at 47 years of age

In an interview with Naomi Campbell, Diaz shared that she likes to find balance in life. She acknowledged that many people become parents in other ways: “They get married [and] have families in their youth. I’m doing it in the second half of my life.” She loves that her life is private at last. But still, there is some pressure, even in late motherhood. The actress said, “I’ll have to make it to 107. So, no pressure!”.

Despite this, Cameron Diaz is absolutely sure that she is in her “sweet spot” and in the happiest moment of her life. Not even her previous experiences while traveling and working can compare to this new stage. “Having a family when you’re young is like anything when you’re young, you just do it. When you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard to make it happen.”

During the interview, Campbell noted that Diaz looked more beautiful and happier today compared to before, and it was noticeable that she had finally achieved the balance she had long sought.

Do you think that age leads to a different experience in motherhood? Is it better to have children in youth or in maturity?
