Oprah Winfrey, 70, Was Hospitalized. And Some Suspected in an Effort To Be Slim, She Went Too Far
Recently, 70-year-old Oprah Winfrey was hospitalized. Currently, the TV host has recovered well. While some fans are happy and wish her well, others suspect her of being overly fond of weight loss.
King explained Oprah Winfrey’s absence from the news program on an episode of CBS Mornings. She revealed that Winfrey needed medical attention due to a severe stomach virus.
“Yesterday she said, ‘I’m going to rally, I’m going to rally.’ She had some kind of stomach thing where — stomach flu where stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” King shared.
“But needless to say, she ended up in the hospital. Dehydration, she had an IV, so it was a very serious thing,” King said.
“She will be OK. She will be OK,” King affirmed, and added, “I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail, but I wanted to make it clear that it mattered to her, and it bothered her that she couldn’t be here for you today.”
It’s unclear which day Winfrey was hospitalized, but she or someone from her team took to Instagram to announce the book club pick, Familiaris by David Wroblewski. “Summer is here, and I love to settle in with a big book that takes me through the season,” she wrote in the caption.
In the photo, Winfrey appeared to be in good spirits, holding the book with a full face of makeup and her hair perfectly styled.
On the same day, King reached out to Oprah via FaceTime to clarify the situation. The TV host mentioned she was at home recovering from an illness. “I was in the emergency room, I was so dehydrated,” said Winfrey. “I had a dry mouth and I couldn’t keep enough water down to get hydrated, so I went to the emergency room for that, and that’s just it.”
Then she added that she’s “not 100 [percent], I’m on my way to 100,” adding that five people in her household had also fallen ill with the same virus.
“I was too weak to get on the plane,” Winfrey said. King also inquired if Winfrey felt “offended” by her disclosure about her health, to which Winfrey responded,"No I thought what you were trying to do was explain why I wasn’t there and doing that in a definitive way.“
“Everybody I’ve ever known who has access to my email has called me to say, ’Are you alright?’ Thanks!” she added.
Fans of the TV host expressed words of support to Oprah and wished her a speedy recovery. However, there were those who suggested that the disease could have been caused by a desire to lose weight. Nevertheless, there is no confirmation of this. We hope Oprah only experienced a minor stomach issue and that everything has been resolved.
