16 People With Unusual Looks Who Boldly Broke Into the Fashion World and Changed Ideals About Beauty

The body positivity trend is gaining popularity. It says that there is no single law of beauty. Every person is beautiful in their uniqueness. And the modeling business plays an important role in this movement. Disabled and transgender models, people with completely different looks, physique and outlook, are increasingly appearing on the runway.

Rain Dove is known for modeling in both male and female shows due to her androgynous appearance, which apparently seems to bother some people.

Winnie Harlow is one of the most famous people in the world diagnosed with vitiligo. However, this did not stop her from becoming one of the Victoria’s Secret models.

In 2021, Lila Moss appeared on the runway with an insulin pump on her hip. Kate Moss’ daughter suffers from Type 1 diabetes, and is not too shy to talk about it.

Nyle DiMarco is a deaf model and activist. In 2015, he was the winner of America’s Next Top Model. 2 years later, he was named Deaf Person of the Year by DEAF LIFE.

Aaron Rose Philip is the first transgender and physically disabled model to ever be represented by a major modeling agency.

Chella Man is the first transgender man and deaf model to sign a contract with IMG Models, one of the biggest international modeling agencies.

Kelly Knox is a successful British model. She tries to show the world that disability can be cool, fashionable, beautiful, and powerful.

In her childhood, Diandra Forrest dreamed of finding a role model who was like her. Now, she is a role model for people with albinism.

Zach Miko proved that men can also be successful plus-size models. “I hope that with this, guys growing up being of size can now open up a catalog or a website and see someone they can relate to.”

Danish model Jill Kortleve was the first Fendi plus-size model and the second Chanel plus-size model.

Young models aren’t the only ones who look good on the runway. A great example is American model Karen Bjornson, born in 1952.

At the age of 15, Nina Marker was diagnosed with Asperger’s. But she still became a popular model.

Ariel Nicholson became the first open trans woman to take part in the Calvin Klein show and appear on the cover of Vogue.

Rebekah Marine was born without her right forearm. She made it her thing and is famous as The Bionic Model.

Jack Eyers became popular in 2015. He said, “To be the first male amputee model on a New York Fashion Week runway feels amazing — it feels like such a big deal.”

The US supermodel Lauren Wasser once nearly died from toxic shock syndrome, but bounced back. With her golden prosthetic legs, she is now a beacon of body positivity.

For many decades, the concept of a model meant being perfect and having the ideal figure. Today, however, this is not the case. On the runways there are more and more models not only of different looks, but also of different ages. This is because fashion exists to make all people beautiful, no matter how they look or how old they are.
