27 Celebrities Whose Real Heights May Surprise You

year ago

It’s not that easy to comprehend how tall our favorite celebrities are while watching them on-screen or looking at them in magazines. Men, for example, are often shown as taller than they actually are, while women tend to wear heels, making the task of determining their height even harder. That being said, you are likely to be surprised when you find out how tall some celebrities really are.

Before we dive in, it’s worth mentioning a couple of important things.

  • First, websites such as IMDb or Wikipedia sometimes add an inch or 2 to male actors’ heights. That’s because action-movie heroes can’t be short, right? Besides, the heights shown on these websites were measured when the celebrities had just started their careers.
  • Second, people tend to become shorter after the age of 40 because intervertebral discs lose their elasticity over the years and decrease in size.

Morgan Freeman and Jim Carrey: 6’1½"

Brooke Shields: 5’10½"

Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper: 6’½"

Vin Diesel and Uma Thurman: 5’11¼"

Blake Lively: 5’8½’’

Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino: 5’5″

Julianne Moore and Madonna: 5’3½"

Natalie Portman and Sarah Jessica Parker: 5’2½’’

Kevin Hart and Gillian Anderson: 5’2¼"

Kim Kardashian: 5’2″

Reese Witherspoon and Salma Hayek: 5’1½"

Eva Longoria and Ariana Grande: 5’½"

Nicole Kidman, 5’10½’’, and Tom Cruise, 5’7¾"

This shot from the movie Eyes Wide Shut illustrates the fact that we don’t always see how tall actors really are. Some of them are deliberately made taller, and some of them are made shorter.

Before starting to work on this article, the author couldn’t have imagined that Brooke Shields was 5’10½’’ tall. At the same time, she was surprised to find out that Al Pacino was 3 inches shorter than her. He seems so much taller on-screen. Did the heights of any of these celebrities surprise you? Which ones?
