15 People Who Proved True Love Can Overcome Even the Most Difficult Hurdles

year ago

There is a famous quote that says “There is love, of course. And then there’s life, its enemy.” And sometimes life doesn’t allow love to grow bigger and flourish in the direction that two people would want. And while these cases are many, there are also cases where love prevailed no matter how hard the situations were and how many hurdles there were. It was determination, tremendous effort and sacrifice that made things possible.

I was in the same kindergarten class with my current gf and I gave her an engagement ring one day at recess because i had a crush on her. Later her mom made her give it back. I was sad, but really young so I really had no consept of engagement. Over the next few years we hung out here and there up until high school and we lost touch. Saw her in the halls now and then, still had a crush on her, never did anything about it.

4 years after high school, I met her at a local bagel shop, said she needed work on her car. Took that as a sign and told her to come by on the weekend so I can take a look. She spend the day with me and we caught up on old times. Hinted that she liked me too when we were younger. Needless to say, I’ve never fixed a car that slowly before.

Now we’re 6 months in and couldn’t be happier. I can easily say she’s the love of my life and now that I have my chance, I won’t ruin it. Master_of_Dutches / Reddit

This older lady I drove today asked me if I had ever been with a woman. I told her yes, and she asked me what it was like. At first, I was like, grandma, this is weird.

Then, she told me she thinks she’s been in love with her best friend since childhood. She said she wishes her generation wasn’t so closed off. She and her best friend live together now and basically, her friend is like everything she wishes her husbands were for her, but she’s scared to say.

So, I dropped her off, and when we pull up, her friend was sitting outside waiting on her. She gets up and opens the door while I’m pulling the walker out of the trunk. Then she helps her stand up and says, “I couldn’t imagine having anybody else to end this life with. You’re my favorite person.” Then I teared up, and they hugged and told each other, “I love you.” © Al0haNani / Twitter

I saw this girl, but we never said anything to each other. At that moment, I knew I loved her, so I never went for any other girls. 2 years later, I found out she was going on a trip. Of course, I signed up also, so off I went 700 miles to see this girl.

On the night before we were coming back to New Jersey, her friend told me she liked me. I knew that if I didn’t make a move, I would never get another chance. Now, we’re incredibly happy together. © Unknown User / Reddit

I dated this girl in high school for only a month. I knew she was special, but she was moving away for college. We decided to split because the long distance wouldn’t work for us. I thought I had lost her. I moved on, but I always wondered what would happen if we were still together.

Then one day, 5 years later, I got a text from an unknown number asking me to come to a bar. Confused, I reply and ask who it is. Turns out it was her. She had kept my number all this time. So, I went to the bar. It was like we never separated. We just talked, joked, and had a great time. One thing led to another, and I married her back in November. She is amazing, and I would not trade her for anything. © panken / Reddit

I met a boy at a concert during the summer of 2010. We had both wandered off from our friends, were both massive fans of the band, and had an amazing night enjoying each other’s company. Being in a slightly altered state, we ended up only exchanging names.

Fast-forward to January 2011. I run into him at a party at my school, turns out he had transferred to my college that September. We began spending time together, as friends at first, but I soon realized he was everything I’d ever hoped to find in someone. I guess he felt the same way because we’ve been together for over a year now and couldn’t be happier. © groovyrubie / Reddit

I was a 17-year-old working at the gas station my grandpa owned. We were expecting heavy tourism traffic, then a Toyota pulled up. The dad and oldest daughter got out and went inside. I started pumping the gas and checking the tires. I noticed the band on her shirt was my favorite band, so I simply just sang a line from one of my favorite songs by them.

She looked my way and finished the lyric. I took that as a sign that I should talk to this girl more. It was brief, but I got enough information to know where she was staying for the week, and make a coffee date at 6 p.m. that night. One date led to 3 more times seeing her before she left, and us deciding to do a long-distance relationship. Now, we’re getting ready to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of our first date. © Unknown User / Reddit

My husband and I went to the same college for 2 years. Never met each other. He worked at the college cafeteria where I ate once in a while, so I’m sure he was probably the cashier at some point, but I never noticed. I worked at a restaurant he used to come to with his golfing buddies every Sunday. Never met, or if we did, we didn’t notice each other.

I was in a little fender bender. I had to pull into a parking lot and wait for my mom to come pick me up. While I was waiting, I noticed a car with Beatles bumper stickers. I was a huge Beatles fan, so I liked it. Then I saw a young, cute guy walk out to the car. I thought, “Hm, I should compliment him on his bumper stickers and talk with him.” I was too shy, so I didn’t, and he got in his car and drove away.

Fast-forward 2 months later. I was at a party, and a friend brought a friend. We met and hit it off. On our first date, as we got into his car, I noticed that it was the car with the Beatles bumper stickers. We’ve been together for 13 years, and have 3 kids. © RunsLikeAGirl / Reddit

Story of my grandparents. They met in college and were college sweethearts. After he graduated, he moved to California for a job. She was going to then come out after she graduated and they would be married.

A mutual friend came to visit her, lied, and told her that he had moved on and gotten married. She was devastated and married another. Then he found out she was married and so he moved on and married someone else. Years go by and children are born, grow up and have kids of their own (like me).

She is divorced. His wife passes away. She starts dating again and through a different mutual friend, find out the other is single. They date, find they are still madly in-love and marry. ex-mo-fo-sho / Reddit

Was in a graphic design class. There was this exchange program where students could go to a neighboring school to take different courses using their equipment, so we had some students I didn’t recognize. One of these students had red hair and I felt like I got hit by a series of sledgehammers in the chest.

But, I tripped and fell down right next to her table, hitting my head on the floor pretty hard. As I was getting up, she laughed, and I looked her dead in the eyes and said, “I like your shoes.” One thing led to another and after some awkward series of events we got together. While we took a break in college due to distance for a time, we got back superfast afterward and have been happily together for 15 years. © vasaryo / Reddit

On the first day of eleventh grade, I walked into my 4th-period class and saw a handsome boy. I went up to him and asked him what his name was. He didn’t reply for whatever reason. At the time, this made me angry. I proceeded to kick his desk, then he replied, “Kevin.” I smiled at him and said, “Hi, Kevin,” every single day. We eventually became good friends, then summer came, and we didn’t talk for a while.

Then we started talking again senior year and I inevitably told my best friend about him. She was also friends with him. She told him about my feelings for him, and he didn’t believe her at first. He thought she was playing a joke on him because he had liked me since the day we met and didn’t think I’d like him back. So, then we hung out, and eventually, he asked me to be his girlfriend. We are now graduating from college this year. © RootB***WithIce / Reddit

I met the most beautiful girl in the world during my first week of college. We were both dating other people at the time, but became great friends. She left to go to a school in her home state and I stayed, but we never lost contact. After a year, I made a 12-hour car trip to see her and sparks literally flew.

We dated long distance for almost 2 years when she transferred back to where I was. After 4 years of dating, I decided that this must be real, so I proposed on the beach, and we got married a year later. That was almost 3 years ago, and last week she told me that she was pregnant with our first child. © ShepherdDerrialBook / Reddit

My husband and I started going out at 16 years old. We stayed together through going to different universities, and we didn’t want any regrets about going to university for the sake of being together, rather than the universities we actually wanted to go to.

We’ve survived so much together over the years, and grew together rather than apart. We’ve been together for nearly 12 years, married for 3, still happy, still very much in love, and with our first child on the way. © User230618 / Reddit

My parents have been married for 38 years. My dad was my mom’s brother’s best friend. They met when she was 16, but didn’t really get together until she was 19. Fast-forward 40 or so years, my mom is diagnosed with progressive MS.

She no longer walks and needs a lot of help doing the little things people take for granted. He has been by her side every step of the way, sure they fight, but when they look at each other they could melt butter. It’s adorable. © Wittynameoptional / Reddit

Was once friends with a student in high school. We hung out every single day, cuddled in her bed, flirted, and all that jazz, but were “just friends.” She was going out to parties and I always had to just deal with it because we weren’t in a relationship.

One day, I decided and said, “I have absolutely no interest in being your friend.” That was 13 years ago. She’s now my wife and is currently on the couch breastfeeding our 3-month-old son. © Landlubber77 / Reddit

Met my now husband while travelling. We met in London on a bus tour to England, Scotland & Wales for 2 weeks. He went back to the States, while I continued to travel. A month later while in Paris, he flew in to surprise me for a 2 day stay.

Month after that, I flew from Australia to the States to spend Thanksgiving with him. Went home, quit my job, sold everything, flew back to the States and got married in Jamaica 3 weeks later. We’re coming up on our 10 year anniversary and have 2 wonderful kids and a great dog. K1W1Chick / Reddit
