There are many different factors that indicate how you should take care of your hair. Length, hair texture, natural color or not and whether they are oily or not are some important ones. Also, not every woman might realize this, but combing your hair isn’t always simple, since the wrong time and moment can create issues. That’s why we felt it would be useful to share a few important tips with you.

Hair is very important to most women and here, at Now I’ve Seen Everything, we thought you’d like to know 13 vital tips that can keep your hair beautiful and healthy and increase its shine.

1. Comb based on the type of hair you have

The principles of correct combing depend on the type of hair you have.

  • Fine and straight hair: It’s important to find a soft brush for such hair. The comb should have soft and flexible bristles, which will ensure that the hairs don’t tangle or break. Be sure to comb your hair only when it’s dry. Also, comb your hair starting from the ends. This way, you can avoid tangling your hair.
  • Thick hair: It’s also best to comb or brush thick hair when it’s dry. If your hair is prone to get tangled, comb it when it’s wet with your fingers, and then when it gets dry, comb it again, moving from bottom to top.
  • Curly hair: Curly hair should be combed only when wet. If it seems to you that your hair needs more moisture, use moisturizing creams or a leave-in conditioner. This type of hair should be combed from the bottom up as well because it reduces the risk of hair loss. Combing should be even, otherwise, some curls will look less tight than others.

Our hair needs regular combing for several reasons.

  • Natural shine: Hair follicles contain sebaceous glands that produce natural oils. Combing it helps to evenly distribute these oils from roots to ends, which will give the strands a natural shine.
  • Stimulation of the scalp: Gentle combing helps stimulate the scalp, as well as blood flow and hair growth.
  • Natural hair removal: We normally lose anywhere from 50 to 100 hairs a day, and combing can help us, removing the ones that are on the edge of falling out.

2. Moisturize with natural oils

Because of compounds like vitamin E, fatty acids, and various antioxidants, some natural oils could help you treat the outermost layer of your skin. Most of these would actually help you to moisturize both your hair and scalp. If you want to use these as a hair treatment, do the following:

  1. Apply almond, avocado, coconut oil, or argan oil once or twice a week evenly to all your hair. Keep it on for a few minutes, then wash it out with a mild to gentle shampoo.
  2. When it comes to applying coconut oil, you can leave it on overnight. However, use a handkerchief or an old T-shirt as a pillowcase to avoid stains on your pillow.
  3. Wash your hair in the morning.

3. Try an egg and lemon mask to repair damaged hair

Egg whites contain a variety of beneficial nutrients, such as protein and amino acids. At the same time, lemon can be good for treating a dry scalp and maintaining shiny, healthy hair.

Prepare a mask with both ingredients using the following procedure:

  1. Mix 1 egg white and half of a medium-sized lemon until fully integrated.
  2. Apply evenly to your hair.
  3. Cover with a shower cap and wait 30 minutes.
  4. Remove the mask using a mild shampoo. Use regularly for best results.

4. Try rice water for treating dry hair.

Rice water contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that can help you alleviate inflammation on the scalp while, at the same time, treat dry hair, make it healthier. To use this rather special ingredient, you just have to follow these steps:

  1. Wash 2 tablespoons of white or brown rice by placing them under the running tap to remove dirt and impurities.
  2. Place the rice in a container or bowl that you can cover, and add 2 cups of clean water. Let it soak in there for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Mix it well, then strain it through a sieve or a colander. Make sure to save the resulting water in a jar or bottle. You can keep it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Remember to always shake or stir before using.
  4. Apply it to wet hair after rinsing out your regular shampoo, massaging from the roots to the ends.

5. Use your towel correctly.

  • Use a cotton towel. Don’t wrap it around your head or rub it over your hair. This will only tangle the hair more than it already is and make it frizzy. Dry your hair by pressing lightly on the towel to remove excess water. This will also make it less difficult to untangle.

6. Take care of your brush/comb.

Keeping the brush or comb clean is a universal rule for good-quality combing. The comb or brush collects all the things that you brush out of your hair every day. And if you don’t keep it clean, sooner or later, this dirt will migrate back to your hair.

Set a rule to clean your brush or comb every 2 weeks. In order to clean the brush, immerse it into a solution of water and shampoo for several minutes and then remove all the hair from it. A wooden comb shouldn’t be left in the water for a long time as not to damage it.

7. Lower the temperature of water.

If your hair looks dry and brittle, it’s important to avoid washing it with very hot water. High temperatures are often known to remove the natural oils found in hair fibers, worsening the hair’s condition.

8. Why you should cut the ends of your hair:

The end of a hair is the weakest part of the lock. If you leave the ends for a long time, they’ll start breaking and splitting over time. If you don’t stop the process, the ends may ruin the entire strands of hair. Cutting or trimming is the only way to get rid of the damaged areas, and there’s no way to treat them.

Thanks to cutting, hair looks shinier. But if your goal is to grow long hair, it’s important not to overdo it. Your hair grows about half an inch a month, so you might want to aim for a 1/4-inch trim every 3 months or so.

9. Know the proper way to apply conditioner.

Get the necessary amount of your rinse-out conditioner and apply it to your hair in sections. It’s common to just apply the conditioner to the outside of the hair, but that neglects a lot of the hair on the inside. Separate your hair into 2-4 sections (depending on how much hair you have) and apply conditioner, section by section, while avoiding the scalp.

10. Massage your scalp.

By massaging your scalp you stretch the hair follicles and stimulate blood vessels beneath the skin. This can encourage hair growth and help to increase hair thickness. Move your fingertips in small circles around your scalp, applying light pressure to it. Go across your scalp, covering every area with your fingers. Do this every day for at least 5 minutes.

11. Minimize stress.

Being constantly worried can lead to hair loss and make your hair appear thinner. Every day try to find some time for yourself and relax. Activities like sports, stretching, warm baths, massages, breathing exercises, or hobbies can help you get your stress under control. By improving your mental state you improve the state of your body and hair too.

12. Dry your hair at a lower temperature.

If you already struggle with dry hair, it’s recommended that you choose lower temperatures instead of higher ones when using a hair dryer or flat iron, if you use these at all. This will prevent the hair from drying out even more.

13. Don’t wash your hair every day.

Washing your hair with shampoo makes it clean, that’s true. However, in addition to removing oil and dirt, it also removes the skin’s natural sebum that keeps hair moisturized and healthy. That’s why it’s better to wash your hair twice a week.
