Passenger Avoids Excess Baggage Fee by Wearing All Her Clothing on Flight

Gel Rodriguez, a young traveller, resorted to unusual measures in an attempt to avoid paying additional baggage fees. Her carry-on bag was overweight, exceeding the limit of 15 lb. So, she chose to put on over 5 lb of her own clothing as a way to avoid the fees and her post describing the event has gone viral.

Gel Rodriguez, a Philippine citizen, took drastic measures to avoid paying for excess luggage fees during her flight. She was faced with a carry-on bag that surpassed the weight limit of 15 lb, leading her to wear at least 10 pieces of her own clothing weighing over 5 lb.

Upon reaching the check-in counter, the traveller was notified that her suitcase had exceeded the maximum weight limit. Then, she calmly replied to the airline staff and said it wouldn’t be an issue. However, she refused to pay the fee and instead opted to reduce the weight of her luggage donning numerous t-shirts, pants, and jackets.

In an interview, Gel explained why she was unwilling to pay the excess baggage fee: “I didn’t want to pay the fee for the excess baggage because it was only two kilograms (4.4 lbs)”. However, despite successfully avoiding the fee through her creative solution, she has no intentions of layering herself with clothing at the airport again. Gel described the experience as excessively warm and uncomfortable. She also mentioned that she would have posed better in the picture if she had known it would become viral.
