8 Tips That Will Help You Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Many people often complain about how expensive dentristry is, but they don’t realize how pricey the different equipment is. But, before you end up at the dentist’s office, there are things you can do to maintain your teeth to high standards. The better care you take of them, the less money you will need to spend for a dentist.

Now I’ve Seen Everything has searched and found 8 useful tips that will help you take care of your teeth better.

1. Swimming pool visitors are at risk.

Of course, nobody says that swimming is not beneficial for your health. But the problem is that the chemicals used to disinfect the water in swimming pools have a terrible effect on the teeth. In the ’80s, American scientists published the results of a study that focused on the health of teeth of professional swimmers, 40% of whom suffered from tooth enamel damage.

So, what should you do? Try to keep the swimming pool water out of your mouth and swim in fresh or salt water in the summertime.

2. Floss your teeth before brushing

Regular flossing may also reduce bad breath and some diseases by removing plaque. Specialists recommend you to floss just before brushing, but not after. It will help your brush to reach blocked areas.

3. Use Baking soda and salt for white teeth.

Start with this simple yet effective method of tartar removal. Baking soda is a powerful agent that has an antibacterial effect and aids in teeth whitening too.

Mix 1 tbsp of baking soda with a pinch of salt and put some of this mixture on your toothbrush. Alternatively, add it to your regular toothpaste. Don’t brush your teeth with baking soda more than once a week as it can lead to enamel damage.

4. Chew gum for up to 20 minutes.

It’s always better to chew a piece of gum right after eating, but it should be sugar-free. Chew it for up to 20 minutes to increase the flow of saliva and cancel out the acid after having a meal.

5. Drink water with fluoride after having a meal.

Saliva has an important role and keeps our teeth safe. Coffee and food reduce saliva production. Just drink more water after your meal — the best water contains fluoride. It stops cavities from forming and strengthens teeth.

6. Brushing your teeth in the shower or on the toilet is not the best idea.

While taking care of your teeth, it’s best if you don’t get distracted by anything else. This is a process that needs to be done very attentively. And in order to teach your children to brush their teeth for a certain time, doctors recommend turning on their favorite song. It will grab your kid’s attention for 2-3 minutes (this is how long it takes to remove dental plaque and get rid of bacteria).

7. Floss your teeth the same way, every day

Keep to a regular pattern for flossing. Start with your top teeth and work from the left to the right. After you finish the top teeth, repeat the same on the bottom from the left to the right.

8. We chew only on one side of our mouth.

Chewing has self-cleansing properties. So if you chew food only on one side of your mouth, it can lead to cavities and decay on the side you don’t usually use.

Apart from that, chewing food on one side of the mouth causes thick and strong muscles on that side. The muscles on each side of the face will become asymmetric. Eventually, it can lead to pain and even hearing problems.

Pay attention when eating, and try to chew your food on both sides of your mouth. Don’t forget to eat solid food, such as fruits and vegetables. It will make your teeth stronger.

What other things have you implemented in your daily routine that help you keep your teeth white and healthy?
