12 Times People Noticed Seemingly Small Mistakes in Movies That Editors Missed

Continuity errors are probably the most common mistakes that appear in almost every movie produced. That is because a scene can take multiple shots to be finished and during that time, actors and their surroundings can’t be exactly the same. If, for example, someone is eating a sandwich in 20 different shots, the final cut might show the sandwich in various stages of it being eaten. And while these types of errors aren’t preventable, they are noticeable by avid movie viewers.

1. Titanic

We’re about to finish our popcorn, but we couldn’t leave this mega-production out. Titanic was not spared from our list. Jack is handcuffed to a ship’s tube as we see him in suspenders (02:06:06). Then, Rose frees him with an ax and appears to have slashed off his suspenders (02:06:15). However, in the next shot, we see Jack again with them.

2. 50 First Dates

50 First Dates was a movie that we all loved, both for its sweet narrative and for the excellent chemistry that Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore share on screen. The story had such a grip on us that we were unable to notice the sudden transformation from a glass of water to a cup of coffee from one scene to the next.

3. P.S. I Love You

P.S. I Love You is about a woman who lives with the aching memory of her deceased husband who apparently changes the objects on the wall from one place to another. Specifically, when Hilary Swank receives her dry cleaning, a picture of balloons can be seen which in the next shot magically changes to be one of a bird.

4. Twilight

One of the most famous couples in cinema is that of the mortal Bella and the vampire Edward from the Twilight saga. From the first time they exchanged words, supernatural events followed them. We see how in the 2008 movie, the shelf behind Edward has a decoration and, after exchanging a couple of words with Bella, the decoration has changed.

5. My Best Friend’s Wedding

My Best Friend’s Wedding is one of the most remembered romantic comedies of the ’90s, and it was a great success for Julia Roberts after the great success of Pretty Woman.

Its love story is so captivating that it is difficult to notice the little mistakes it may have; for example, in the scene where Jules catches up with Michael at the train station, you can see 2 employees pass by with a silver suitcase before she sits down next to him. These exact same people walk by the same place again once she takes her seat.

6. A Walk to Remember

A Walk to Remember portrays a classic early 2000s teen romance, led by actors Shane West and Mandy Moore. Their love for each other seems to be so magical that it makes objects disappear, as when Jamie’s character enters the scene, she appears with a backpack on her back that once the shot changes, disappears.

7. Notting Hill

Notting Hill is a romantic movie that is well-known for the seemingly impossible love between the bookseller played by Hugh Grant and the movie star played by Julia Roberts.

In the popular scene in which the 2 collide and stain their clothes with orange juice, their encounter ends with a kiss in Grant’s apartment, who still has the stained shirt. However, in the next shot, when Roberts leaves, the magic of love apparently removes clothing stains. The lesson to take away here seems to be that if you want clean shirts, you just have to fall in love.

8. Captain America: Civil War

In this superhero movie, there is a scene where Spider-Man grabs Captain America’s shield and covers it with web all over. In the next scene, Spider-Man is holding the shield in his hands, and the trophy is absolutely clean. How did he manage to clean it so fast?

9. Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! brought back to the game some of ABBA’s greatest songs, and by mixing them with a great Hollywood cast, it became a huge success. That doesn’t leave it free of certain mistakes, like when during the song Money, Money, Money, once Meryl Streep’s character enters the kitchen you can see a newspaper resting on the table that disappears in the next shot.

10. Love Actually

Love Actually is a romantic comedy of great scope, with a large cast and a repertoire of stories as touching as they are interesting. In a production of this scale, it is normal for some details to slip through the cracks. One example of that is the scene in which Andrew Lincoln’s character shows Keira Knightley the video of their wedding. When he plays the video, there are other devices on top of the TV, which magically disappear, when the video ends and returns to the shot.

11. Game of Thrones

The Unsullied are known to the viewers as the loyal warriors who are ready to sacrifice their lives for Daenerys, their Queen. None of them have any romantic relationships with women. And there is a reason for that. The love of the Grey Worm and Missandei is an exception. But, judging by this shot from the show, one of them is still married, or maybe, he just likes jewelry.

12. Titanic

First, Rose can be seen attending a very elegant dinner with her mother. But suddenly, our protagonist, who gets really annoyed by the comments of the attendees, decides to leave the gala. On her way out of the ballroom, you can clearly see that she no longer has the necklace around her neck and that she untied her hair in a matter of seconds.

Have you ever noticed such a mistake in a movie at the exact moment you watched it or did you only notice it after you rewatched the movie?
