12 Hidden Secrets that Were Accidentally Revealed by Partners

We often believe we know the people we live with very well, like our partner or spouse. But sometimes, unexpected situations can reveal things about them that we never noticed before. These surprising details can be small or big, but they can change how we see our partner completely.

  • When my husband passed away in a workplace accident he was in another state. When I got his belongings there were answering machine messages from a woman thanking him for being so amazing. And for dinner, etc. Then on his computer was emails and text messages from several women. I was pregnant and dealing with his pass already. Then suddenly I had this anger at him that I could obviously do nothing with. Everyone told me you can’t be mad at a dead person. But it was confusing. © missymaypen / Reddit
  • I found my ex’s passport with a different name on it, along with 20–30 tweezers. She said she lost her eyebrows in a weird chemical makeup incident. But who knew she was pulling them out with tweezers and had a different name? © StringTheories74 / Reddit
  • His fake teeth. Had been together a year and lived together 2 months. He hadn’t told me as was embarrassed but didn’t change the way I felt about him at all. Just had to reassure him that it isn’t embarrassing. © junojack / Reddit
  • I found a dozen maxed-out credit cards, most with balances in the thousands after she suddenly passed away. Fortunately, I hadn’t signed up for any of them. This was right after she passed, so I sent off a few dozen death certificates and that was the end of it. My state didn’t force spousal debt on the surviving partner. © va_wanderer / Reddit

  • When we first started dating there was always an unmarked white van parked somewhere around his apartment. As a woman who values her safety, I stayed well clear of it. Come to find out 3-4 months in that it’s his, which he used to drive his stuff across the country when he moved here. He doesn’t drive it, but kept having to move it because he kept getting chalk lines on his tires by the local traffic cops because someone kept reporting it for not moving, despite the fact he had nowhere besides the street to store it. He didn’t want to tell me about it bc he thought it would make him look creepy lol. He only told me when I eventually let slip I thought it was a sketch. He ended up selling it to buy my engagement ring. © puff_pastry_1307 / Reddit
  • My girlfriend at the time went to a festival with a female friend. A few months later, while packing up our stuff to move, I found photos from the festival. And who was in the tent with her? Yep, her ex. © Chrisf1bcn / Reddit
  • In the first four months of our relationship, I was at his house. He went to the bathroom and left his laptop open, so I looked at it and saw he had daily messages with a woman. That woman was his best friend’s girlfriend. © Unknown author / Reddit
  • I found a letter to his wife, asking if they were still married or not. I had no idea he was married, and apparently, he wasn’t sure of his marital status either. I wasn’t snooping; it was scrunched up in the back of a cupboard in the spare bedroom. © Unknown author / Reddit
  • My fiancee and I broke up after months of her being emotionally abusive, promising to change but never changing and in fact getting worse. When she moved out, I went through her books to donate them. There was a paper inside one, used as a bookmark, and it had a list that she made before we got together of qualities and traits that she was looking for in a partner.

Almost all of it described me. Even the part that said something like, “when we have a disagreement of opinion, he stands up for what he wants”. It’s so interesting how people think they know what they’re after, but when they get it, they don’t actually want it. © Unknown author / Reddit
  • I found a notebook with a partially finished letter describing in detail how she cheated on me and how unhappy she was in the relationship. I called her at work and asked about it, and she confirmed it was true. I was packed and gone before she got home. I moved three hours away with my best friend and have had a great time since then. © Good-of-Rome / Reddit
  • I discovered a secret file on my ex’s computer filled with pictures of my friends that he found attractive, all stolen from Facebook. © disapearingelephants / Reddit

Having secrets is normal, even with the people closest to us. Everyone has things they keep to themselves, and that’s okay. But when it comes to dark secrets that can hurt or deeply affect a partner, it’s a different story. These kinds of secrets can break trust and cause serious problems in a relationship. It’s important to be honest, especially when those secrets could impact the person we care about.
