About 10% of Americans say that they don’t eat meat and are following an alternative diet. While the percentage may seem small, it is actually a lot higher than it used to be in the past. More and more people are now deciding to stop eating meat and other animal products for a variety of reasons. Celebrities are also included in this conversation and gladly share with us their reasoning.

1. Milo Ventimiglia

Milo has been a vegetarian his whole life. He said, “I was a vegetarian in the womb, I was doing it before it was a trend. My parents have been vegetarian for 40 years. They raised my sisters and me vegetarian, we had a dog — he was vegetarian.”

He also tweeted Morning Star Farms, asking them to bring back a plant-based food item. He wrote, “I know a couple million vegetarians (as well as myself) who would be grateful if you did. Lemme know how I can help.”

Actor Natalie Portman has been a vegetarian since the age of 9 and went vegan in 2011. She said it all started because she felt a special connection to animals. That is why I eat what I do.’’

Aside from helping animals, his motivation is health and maintaining his good looks: “I’m pretty healthy — I’ve been that way for a long time. 20 solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan food and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.”

4. Jessica Chastain

For Jessica Chastain, becoming a vegan was not something she wanted to do, but it was the result of listening to her body. The actress has said that in her twenties, she had low energy and very high cholesterol, so one way to solve this problem was to change her diet to a completely plant-based one.

5. Kristen Bell

The Bad Moms star has been a vegetarian since she was 11 years old and went vegan in 2012 after watching a documentary about the negative effects of animal-based foods. But during her first pregnancy, Kristen Bell realized that a strict vegan diet wasn’t sustainable for her: “During my first pregnancy, I was working and it felt like I needed more calories.’’

Bell is now a vegetarian, though she supports those who follow a vegan diet: ’’I think being vegan is a wonderful way to live and it has great effects on the body and the environment,” Bell said.

6. Pamela Anderson

Vegetarian since the age of 10, the Baywatch star turned vegan in her twenties and has been a dedicated animal rights advocate since then. Aside from her love of animals, she believes a plant-based diet makes her healthier and is good for the environment: ’’I chose a plant-based diet because I wanted to be healthy. But I think the main reason that I did it was factory farming," she said.

7. Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco opts for a vegetarian lifestyle and is passionate about protecting animals. She has many animals herself, including horses, rabbits, and dogs. She works with animal shelters and recorded a video to help dog adoptions for Paw Works.

She also worked with Farm Sanctuary to help rescue turkeys for Thanksgiving. She said, “No more meat, I’m like, done.”

8. Kate Mara

Kate Mara started following a plant-based diet for her health but then got interested in saving animals: “The animal activist in me just felt a responsibility to make choices about what I’m putting into my body and not just do whatever I want because something tastes good or something’s convenient,” she said.

Although she never confirmed she is vegan, The Sirtfood Diet that Adele followed for her massive weight loss is, indeed, a vegan diet.

15. Anya Taylor-Joy

The actress of the famous Netflix series, The Queen’s Gambit has said that she has been a vegetarian since she was 8 years old. She has also said that she was vegan for a long time because it is the most ecologically conscious choice; however, she currently tries to eat vegan whenever she can.
